paid for the summer special, really good value. the course really is a hidden GEM. The greens are without doubt some of the best I've played on for a members club.the front 9 really are quirky no 2 holes are the same, the back 9 are nore open but with hidden danger, this truly is a great place to play. food very good staff very good members really friendly. I will be back next month to see how fast the greens are then......
Fantastic golf course. One for the thinking golfer. Certainly anyone thinking golf is about brawn over brain could do well to play here and learn a bit. My only slight contention would be the open feel to a few of the holes nearer to the clubhouse. That said, some young trees suggested the club are aware of the need to tighten up in places and a bit of age should serve well here. Odd though that this wasn't done sooner. The front nine in particular is all about good course management. The third, and to a lesser extend the fourth, fifth and, maybe even the sixth, are classic examples of short par 4's. Very much look forward to returning next year.
Beautiful course - the best I've played in the area, very fast (but fair) greens though so care needed with the putter. Would definitely advise spending time on the practice green here before you tee off if you are used to slower greens, would definitely have helped me if I'd had the time. The front nine threading through the woods (but not in a crazy tight fairways way) was my favourite part of the course, really hope to return soon. The only unmemorable hole on the course is the par 3 first (which makes it memorable too in a way) the rest each present their own distinct challenge. Fully recommend it.
I played here as part of the Surrey Amateur and found the layout, greens and welcome from the members to be superb. The course is famous for it's fast running greens and needless to say they had prepared them excellently for the tournament. Again, despite my own golf being pretty terrible, the course is very fair and requires course management rather than length to score well. The front nine is, with the exception of the 2nd, playable with irons off the tee to put the ball into position. There are a few more opportunities on the back nine to hit a driver but in the most part with hard and bouncy fairways it isn't needed in the summer. Easily accessible from London with good transport links, Addington Palace is well recommended.
We played on the winter special (£30 which included a full english post round) the day after a lot of rain, which worried us about the state of the course. We needn't have worried, the course was in great condition (with one green holding some puddles but that was it), the fairways were nice and the green very fast and with lots of breaks - I shot a 96 (playing off 17) and took 41 putts (whoops). Playing slow greens for the last 4 weeks was no way to prepare for these - they were in top condition for March. The course layout is very interesting, lots of variety and some challenging tee offs - defintely need to think about placement. A great challenge, would love to play again. Members on the course seemed very polite and welcoming as did the pro shop/bar. Great day all round.
I played here on a blisteringly hot Thursday afternoon as the guset of a member. This is a class club which is very mature, the greens despite the very hot weather we have been having were in fantastic condition, they are very undulating and fast. There are many excellent holes and to be honest I cannot remeber a bad one, The short twelth with an ornamental fountain in the middle of the fairway is slightly weird and not really to my taste. This is an excellent and very mature course with some fantastic scenary very close to the hustle and bustle of Croydon. Well worth looking out if you are in the area.
Really enjoyed playing this course, the greens were very tricky and fast, the front nine is more tree lined than the back nine, in fact I preffered the first nine as it was more interesting. Would return if invited.
have played this course now a few times and it gets better and better. From when you enter the courtyard putting green and see the clubhouse set in the old stables of the original palace you feel like you are at a traditional private members course - and you are. The main difference is that although the members are fiercely proud of their course and club they are extremely welcoming. The first leads you into a false sense of what is to come as it is nothing more than a rather average par three. However from then on right through to 18 you pit your wits on some really good challenging holes, which set through a heath / parkland course require accuracy and length with equal measure. You take the driver on holes 2, 6 and 8 only on the front with the other holes testing your 3 wood, 4 iron and rescue clubs equally. A good short game will see you picking up shots on your buddies and the greens are the best in Surrey - and that includes St Georges hill. The back nine you can be a little more aggresive but with restraint! All in all a great course in a great setting in awesome condition every time you play. The food in the club house is a little under par compared to the setting and the course but it will not spoil your day. Worth a visit and worth every penny of the £40 green fee.
Great day, spoiled by my car being broken into in the car park. apparently this is a regular event - so be aware! note to the club...more security please. That being said, a good friendly welcome and a real golfing challenge, if a little pricey for midweek.
Played this weekend and I must say its one of the best Ive played. The greens were fast and true, the facilities are superb and the members extremely friendly...There are some stunning holes with a particular favourite being the par 4 3rd where one can easily rack up a very high score!! The course demands a lot of straight shots and will punish errant drives (as i found to my dismay) I will be returning and also enquiring about membership
Having read the positive comments below I was really looking forward to playing this course - but was hugely disappointed when I did. Perhaps it was a question of timing - the greens had been heavily spiked, and the weather wasn't great - or maybe the fact that there are so many blind shots off the tee that it's really difficult for the first timer (even with the course guide) but I clearly missed the charms that everyone else found. A particular disappointment were the greens which were very slow. I'm going to try it again as I'm sure (for the reasons set out above) I must have caught it on a bad day (I played to my handicap so this isn't a bad golfing day sulk!). Maybe with the greens having recovered and a little local knowledge I'll see what everyone else has found. On the positive side, can't fault the hospitality or the friendliness of the members.
Played this course just before Christmas. Front nine more picturesque than rear. Good greens (no temporaries) and some challenging holes. Hilly.
Superb course one of the best in the area. Greens are fantastic, fast and true and allways in perfect condition. Have played severel times with society and friends all sing its praises, can not fault the course in any respect. Have played many courses and you will be hard pressed to match this gem. The other commnt here is for addington court not addington palace
