9 reviews of Addlethorpe Golf and Country Club
I have been a member of this golf club for 4 years now and before that a regular pay and play golfer since the club started when it was only 9 holes. You may say i am biased to defend my own club but certain reviews on here, some by a former member need defending.During the winter of 2007 the course (specially the back 9 holes )suffered severe flooding some of the fairways are only now just beginning to recover. There are still several bunkers not in play but this does not make this round of golf any easier, even if you play of 3 or 23.Addlethorpe golf club is very close to two busy seaside resorts and does receive quite a lot of pay and play players but if your other reviewers see people not conforming to club or the rules of golf report them to the steward. This year has seen a major improvement in the condition of the course, but there is still room for improvement and i ask all people who have written a damaging report to come and play Addlethorpe again,i think you will be pleasently surprised. Biased i am not.
I note the differing reports- Perhpas some want a perfect course -they should try playing on sand and "oiled" greens! However, that is a way from the point- I have played on some links courses that are dry and testing- You should play a certain course in wales- the sea breeze drys the fairways and the rough is real rough- more to the point if people want to play on a perfect course then go pay the money at wentworth etc. I Have polayed on some awful courses and they were a lot more costly than £18. As for the guy who was confronted by the greenkeeper- if you make a critcism then expect a rebuff- and afterall he did have the right person talking to him- perhpas his own attitude may have been wrong!! As Bobby Jones said " We should all play the course as it lies". That is -if it is not perfectly manicured then get on with it- too many want the perfect course- and thinking about it there is one course in the south where there is pony dung on greens and if a pony is on the green you have to wait until it moves- also that course gets dry and as a heathland course-it gives a different perpective to playing off difficult lies- od dear some want golf to be made easy! As for a 3 Handicapper- one wonders...
i wrote a report on the 12th of june this year about this course which was nothing but the truth. On the 9th july 2010 i decided to go on the driving range at this course and then maybe play nine holes as i had heard new machinery had been brought in and money was being spent on the course to lift the image. While on the driving range infront of other people the so called greenkeeper confronted me reagarding my comments left on ukgolfguide and was very rude. This just cemented not playing this course that day.If this is how the green staff conduct themselves and insult paying customers no wonder they are short of members.i have never seen nothing like it on a golf course.I would have been more than willing to discuss and still willing to discuss any matters with the owner (BOB/DON).I have owned my own business for 15 years and always welcome constuctive critisism but it's quite obvious it has been taken personel on this occasion.
my handicap is 3 and i have played this course numerious times but after today i doubt i will ever play this course again. i have been a memeber for 3 years but did not join this year due to the quality of the course.i have played today and where do i start we turned had a coffee in the club house only to see a society on consisting of 26 but no problem happens everywhere.got on the first tee and the society was in front a four ball 2 carts, 1 set of clubs between them all typical english yobs and quite obvious never played before.managed to rudely play through these only to encounter the next four ball.heavily drinking lager with only 2 sets of clubs between them trolleys and cart across green and no hopes of playing through these then they joined up with with a 3 ball.what a joke if this is how they need to bring revenue in then they are very desparate.and this is without rating the course which to be honest is definatly not worth playing regardless f the other reviews and i feel that strongly i will give my email address which is [email protected] please dont't waste your money because they getting no more of mine
well were do i start firstly who ever these other people are i dont believe they are golfers, i found the course to be a good challenge and believe it to be one of the best i have played, there is good distinction between fairway, rough and the deep rough, water hazards that pose a real problem to all handicaps. the club house recently under new management and a very good pint and evening entertainment. i highly recommend.
Addelthorpe is one of the worst courses ive ever played in the four years ive played golf. The fairways are way to dry and are not kept well,on some fairways theres knee deep clover which makes it impossible to find your ball, but the greens are one of the key areas that make this such a bad course. The greens had not been holotined for 5 years previous and he has recently performed this action but has made a mess.To me this course is nothing more than a practice course and sometimes i wouldnt even use it as that. Not worth playing.
Don't know where the others are coming from we had a lovely day enjoyed the golf, green keeper most helpful about the course and the local area.Sun came out pint not to bad.
A very bad course Definately not worth the £18 that i paid. I read the reports before going but never believed some of it, i only wish that i did. Please visit before playing, especially the 2nd 9 holes as the 1st 9 are quite good. We arrived at 8 as the previous day, the keeper said they would be open at 8, they didnt arrive till 8:30 excuse was they were drinking. If this is the attitude of the keeper then no wonder the course is in the state it is. Keep well away. Once again wish i could say something good, but cant
addlethorpe well how can i put this. the worst kept and maintained course ive ever played.dryed out fairways nothing but hard mud.no distinction between fairway and the greens.not one flat teeing area if that is you could find it. all flags ripped to bits so it was hard to aim approach shots. oh and had a pint after nine holes the flatest pint ive drunk in a long time. not good. like to saysomething nice but we were totally disapointed. not worth £10 of anyones money. ashame because there is some lovelly courses in the area.
