Brilliant course got there late and the same old fellow told us to play for free , excellent course and had it all to our selves although it's was rather windy , wouldn't have minded paying the 30 pound would recommend it to anyone.
Great course, played in early September at a special £10 rate after 5pm. So good played it twice in a week having planned to play elsewhere. Even at £30 it's good value. Interesting fairways, burns, bunkers and great greens. Can't recommend it more highly. Didn't go in clubhouse but pro most helpful.
We fitted this into our weeks visit as a cheap alternative to some of its more illustrious neighbours. It does beg the question how some courses can forge a reputation and charge so much when you have superb courses like this nearby at less than half the price!. Played into what even the locals acknowledged was a stiff wind, the first 5 or 6 were tough, but still hugely enjoyable. A proper links course, fair and interesting and tremendous value.
Like a few here, I had trouble getting onto other courses in the neighbourhood, and stumbled accross Arbroath. Its a wee smasher of a course in my opinion and a pretty classic links layout. Its a shame there aren't any nice long par 5's, but the par 3's more than make up for it. I have to be honest and say that I think the first two holes are a bit iffy, but thereafter its really testing with some seriously cheeky pin positions on the day I played. Everyone I encountered was very friendly, and my late tee time of 4ish meant that my outward nine was a very solitary affair. The local members started filling it out very quickly after about 5.30 though. Play if you have a strong stomach. On my round I came accross a few examples of the local wildlife taking it out on one another - ferral carnage at its most picturesque!
I RECENTLY PLAYED THE COURSE WHILE ON HOLIDAY FOR A FEW DAYS.I'VE ONLY BEEN PLAYING FOR A FEW MONTHS AND IT'S THE BEST COURSE I'VE PLAYED SO FAR,I FOUND THE CLUB PRO AND STAFF VERY FRIENDLY AND APPROACHABLE AND WOULD SUGGEST ANYONE VISITING OR HOLIDAYING NEAR THE COURSE TO BOOK A ROUND AND ENJOY THE SEA AIR AND A GREAT ROUND OF GOLF.
We showed up late one Thursday night trying to get in a round. We were told by an elderly gentleman at the clubhouse that the pro shop was closed for the night. When he realized that we wanted to play a round right then, he to us to "Just go, just go." The two of us proceeded to get in 18 just before the late evening, Summer sunset. It was an outstanding experience. We literally had the course to ourselves by the back nine. A great municipal course that I would play again in a heartbeat. Best greens of our golf vacation. The price it right too, if you tee off at the right time.
This is a gem of a course. A classic links, which is often overlooked by its neighbours. I was accommodated at short notice, having tried and failed to get on at Carnoustie. The pro was very helpful and, teeing off at 5.00 p.m., had the course almost to myself. It has some great holes. Although you can't see the sea, it is a true links, excellent greens, and much better value than some of those more publicised on the Angus coast
This is probably one of the finest Municipal Golf Courses in Scotland. We had a most enjoyable day on this course - spoilt only by our poor scoring. However we will most certainly return.
