The course is in a lovely setting, very peaceful. I enjoyed my game. The condition of the course was good especially after the wet winter. I was quite tired afterwards as it is a long walk but I enjoyed the challenge. The clubhouse was welcoming and I enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. It's great value for money. My mid week senior greenfee was just £12.50. I'm not sure that I will play here that often as its a bit hilly for me but I will return for another game. Overall very good

i started playing golf about 3/4 years ago i am still off 28 but with playing 3 or 4 times a week at 70 this course keeps me fit ,the help i have been given by a lot of players who i have played with also as by steve barker the resident pro who is always around with a friendly chat and help or lessons if you want to makes it worth while. the improvement to the course plus good work by the green keepers and friendly staff make it a good day out plus value for money you will not find anywhere locally, smashing scenery good food what else do yo need no waiting time is also a bonus this is from one happy golfer please may it continue .

Lovely little country side course, excellent value for money and always able to get on without booking. The course plays hard because of the hilly landscape but definitely provides a interesting challenge regardless of your skill level. Always outstanding with how quiet it is even on the sunny weekends, but I must say I am always taken back by its picturesque beauty.

I have a soft spot for this course as it's very local for me. If you play off the yellow tees (as do I) you'll find it a long course - the par and SSS are both 71 showing that the yellows are not that much different to the white tees. I often find myself getting tired towards the end and my score usually suffers on the last four holes. The fairways are a bit muddy at the moment (not surprising with the amount of rain) but the greens are still looking half decent. The Grove this isn't but at £13.50 a great value track.

A nice country course, with a couple of very challenging holes. The fairways are well maintained and this course is very good for the begginer of inexperienced golfer. Only critisism is the the outside rough is overly long therefore if you can't hit straight you're going to lose a number of balls on this course.

A lovely course which has come on in leaps and bounds! well maintained and picturesque. Amazed how quiet it was! a course as nice as this, providing great value for money, should be absolutely heaving with golfers. Give it a go its well worth it!

A decent course that is improving rapidly! This has always been a great value place to play, quite a long course and difficult to play to your handicap, in my experience. I often play here with a couple of pals who don't get to play too often and it's perfect for them as well, as the course doesn't get too busy they never feel under pressure to hurry their play too much like they do on some of the busier courses. In recent weeks the course has really started to improve, greens in better condition and just generally feels better cared for. Couple that with really friendly staff and reduction in membership fees, I believe that Ash Valley is a course thats most definitely on the up. Will most certainly be visiting a lot more this coming season.

Big improvements for a club close to my heart! I learnt to play on this course a couple of years ago and it would be fair to say it did have its problems then. I've sinced moved away but came back to visit friends last weekend and decided to give the course another visit. First it was busier than I rememberd, although I didn't need to book. There was also a great atmosphere in the small clubhouse and the staff were really helpful. I enjoyed my round very much. The course was tidy and well presented and even though I play off 11 now I still found it a good test. It would seem that the club and course are moving forward and I only wish I lived close enough to play more often. The green fees and membership prices are truly great value for money. I am looking forward to another visit later this year where I am sure I'll see even more improvement.

played ash valley yesterday and i've got to say without doubt it is the worst course i've ever played, and I have played in exess of 100 The course is basically a farmers field with eihgteen holes on it. The greens were covered in weeds and the bunkers hadn't been raked in months, with mature weeds growing out of them.We were charged £8.50 and to be honest i wouldn't play it again if they gave me the £8.50. On a plus side there are some lovely views from the 3rd tee and its very quiet. If you want to bring your children to a course to teach them, then I suppose this would be perfect because there are no worries about them damaging the course. If you want a decent round at a decent price you can't beat Mentmore £20 twighlight !!!!!!

I used to play at Ash Valley about three years ago but due to a move i had to find a course closer to home. But recently i have been making the drive down to play at Ash valley as the improvements to course are exceptional. The new bunkers on the 5th 15th and the two in prgress on the 6th are grate (more of a challenge). The fairways and greens have improved greatly which makes them very plaesing to play on, and i like the idear of adding small lumps of rough around some of the tree as it splits the holes up. The course is great value for money and very frindly. (Keep up the improvements)

I play at Ash Valley quite a lot and whilst the fairways are usually forgiving the greens add an extra challenge as they are often on a slope or quite undulating. In summer the rough can make the course much tougher to play and the addition of extra bunkers around the Par 3's last year have ceratinly added to the challenge. The tee boxes do need to be improved and occasionally the greens could be a little more even in their roll and pace. Given it's open nature it can play more like a links course especially when the wind is up. If you are someone who does not want to join a club but likes playing regualarly this is a cousre you should try out. It is rare you have to wait to play and at times the course seems quite empty.

I found ash valley a very good challenge as every shot u had to think about from tee to green the tees may not be level but this adds to the course management in your game the course is forgiving on wayward shots so i would suggest strategically placed internal out of bounds to tighten up the course

Although this course has definite potential it can only be described as a 'hackers course' at the moment. There are very few bunkers to speak of and most of them are placed in pointless positions. The course is long but far too open resulting in there being little to prevent you smashing drives down the wrong fariways! Greens are reasonably well kept but are slow and often hard to distinguish from the fairways. Good rolling landscapes give this course the impression of being interesting but ultimately the golfing challenge is dismal. Do not recommend this course but remember to book if you do decide to play!

I am very much a begginer and choose this course because it appeared cheap and give me a chance to improve without costing me a fortune, not expecting the course to be as pleasent or as challenging as it was. I didnt realise that it was as long as it is 570yd par 5, of the yellows, is the longest hole I have ever played. There are pleanty of other long holes. None of the par 3's are below 160yds of the yellows. The course is also quite hilly but all proved to be great fun and for some reason i played the best round of my life shooting a 91. The clubhouse is welcoming but no pro shop or driving range hold the course back a little. Everyone is very freindly and I will definetly return. Lets hope that I can keep the form going!!!

I really enjoy playing this course - excellent value for money and the condition keeps on improving year-on-year, plus there is a new ditch hazard on the 12th....no longer just a short par 4! I managed to par all the par 5's the other day so high-handicappers should give this a go. A recommended round.

Find this course very challenging and where a straight drive off the tee dosen't always pay dividends(3rd).The fairways and greens are a credit to the greenkeeper, good value for money but not a course for beginners.

Pleasant if somewhat plain course. I thought all parts were in reasonable conditon. Fairways were particularly well kept with light rough and then deeper rough not far away. There was a distinct lack of bunkers or development around the greens, they just seemed to be prepared directly from the end of the fairways. Lovely views of Hertfordshire countryside around the course.

I have played this course many times. Always enjoyed the welcome from the staff and also enjoyed playing. The 2nd should be a par 5 (what a climb???). The 7th is a beautiful par 3 where it screams out for a trusty old 7 iron but be prepared to go up a club or maybe even a 5 on a windy day. I got my first ever eagle on the 18th thanks to the fact that they made it a Par 5 after it was a long par 4 for so many years. Thanks for that guys!!... helped my handicap a bit. If you guys manage to level out the tees on a few holes then you will have a great course. As it stands now, it is great value for a tenner for the high to mid handicapped player and the young ones too. If you manage to par the 10th and 13th then think yourself well done! Long and windy par 5s both of 'em.

Ash Valley is an interesting course, set in undulating meadowland with winding fairways. There are a full variety of holes available and if the wind is blowing, provides a tough challenge to any golfer. With the green fees being so low (£10.00 midweek, £7.50 after 5:00) it also represents excellent value. Minor gripes with the course are that some of the tees are uneven. I like to be on level ground when teeing off. Also, the bunkers could be better kept. Other than this, the fairways are very good, greens generally good, with sometimes very tricky pin positions and the rough can be punishing, as it should be. Worth a visit!
