I played Ashbourne using a 2 for 1 voucher on Good Friday. The £12.50 each we paid was good value for this course. The course itself is reasonable, but I must concur with the earlier comments that holes 11 to 13 do leave a lot to be desired. On hole 11 you could do with being a mountain goat to play. Hole 12 is very unfair and 13 does test your fitness, being a short par 4, literally on the side of the hill. I would recommend this course to other players, but feel there are better courses to play in Derbyshire

ME AND MY DAD (71) PLAYED THIS COURSE 18/04/03 WE ARE BOTH VERY NEW TO THE GAME 28 HANDYCAPPERS.I ARRANGED WITH THE CLUB TO PLAY AFTER DROPPING MY SON AND FRIENDS OFF AT ALTON TOWERS. BOOKED A TEE TIME FOR 10.12 AS THERE WAS A BOYS INTER CLUB MATCH STARTING AT 10.30.THIS IS WHEN THE CLUB AND ITS STAFF SHOWED HOW WELCOMING THEY ARE , WE WERE RUNNING LATE SO I RANG THEM AT 10.00 AS WE WERE IN ASHBOURNE BUT WOULD NOT MAKE IT IN TIME NO PROBLEM NEW TEE TIME 12.00. GREAT WE THOUGHT TRAVELLED 150 MILES MUST HAVE A MEAL BEFORE WE GO OUT.WHOOPS OUTSIDE CATERING STAFF DID NOT ARRIVE THIS WAS OUTSIDE THE CONTROL OF THE GOLF CLUB ITSELF.THE LOVERLY LADY IN THE PRO SHOP KEPT APOLOGIZING SO BACK WENT ARE TEE TIME AGAIN TO 13.00.WE WERE THEN APPROACHED BY THE CLUB PRESIDENT WHO THEN BOUGHT BOTH OF US A DRINK FROM THE BAR FOR ARE TROUBLES.CATERS THEN TURNED UP AND COOKED US A GREAT MEAL STRAIGHT AWAY.PLAYED THE COURSE GREENS WERE EXCELLENT FAIRWAYS GOOD BUT I WOULD RECOMMEND THEY PRODUCE A COURSE PLANNER.WHILST OUT ON THE GREEN THE CLUB CAPTAIN OFFERED FRIENDLY ADVICE AND THE CLUB PRESIDENT DISPITE PLAYING JUST 4 WEEKS AFTER A NEW KNEE PLAYED THROUGH US BUT NEVER MADE US FEEL UNCOMFORTBLE WHILST PATIENTLY WAITING BEHIND US.AFTER ARE ROUND AGAIN THE CLUB CAPTAIN JOINED US TO ENQUIRE IF WE ENJOYED ARE SELFS.A LOT OF CLUBS COULD LEARN FROM THIS CLUB.

PLAYED THIS COURSE IN EARLY JULY DURING HEAVY RAIN. SEVERAL HOLES HAVE GREENS PERCHED ON PRECARIOUS RIDGES CUT INTO THE HILLSIDE WITH SEVERE SLOPES TO THE FRONT AND SIDES. IT'S A COURSE WHERE PATIENCE IS NEEDED AS GOOD SHOTS INTO THE GREENS ARE NOT ALWAYS REWARDED. THE DRIVE AT THE LONG PAR 4 11TH IS AS DIFFICULT AS THEY COME,KNEE HIGH ROUGH TO THE LEFT AND OUT OF BOUNDS RIGHT!!! THE DRIVE ON THE 12TH IS UNFAIR TO SAY THE LEAST, IF YOU HIT THE MIDDLE OF THE FAIRWAY, YOUR VIEW TO THE GREEN IS BLOCKED BY A LARGE TREE, IT IS VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO HIT THE BALL OVER THIS TREE AND VERY LITTLE ROOM TO MOVE THE BALL EITHER SIDE OF IT. OVERALL THERE ARE SOME GOOD HOLES, THE PAR 5 15TH & PAR 4 18TH TO NOTE, BUT I WAS A LITTLE DISAPPOINTED AT THE OVERALL STANDARD OF THE COURSE.
