Interesting challenge, the course is maturing nicely.Greens immaculate possibly best I have ever played on in 30 years.
Very well presented track and surprisingly well maintained piece of ground. This is a course that puts the much vaunted but ill-preserved Hazlehead to shame. Whereas it would not attract the championship golfer (but, then again, how many of us are in that category?) it is a test for most handicappers and will prove a worthwhile and enjoyable outing for anyone with a bag of sticks and a few pills. The fairways are immaculate, the greens are consist entand the rough is equitable. The trees (planted only twenty years ago) are beginning to become punitive but nevertheless provide a pleasant accompaniment to the concourse. Ignore the aircraft noise (Dyce Airport should outlast the golfcourse) ignore the absence of benches and ball-washers and suchlike and ignore the accepted accoutrements of modern day golfing and try to enjoy a carefully crafted and well preserved piece of Scottish Golf and enjoy your round! I watched Auchmill under construction, and played it whilst it was still a relatively challenging 9-hole course. Although it has been over 4 years since I played a round there, I have fond memories, including a hole-in-one on what was the 6th? (downhill onto a "postage stamp" green with banking surrounding it). This course can present a challenge for both low and high-handicaps. Ah, fond memories!
Auchmill is a very good municipal course situated on the edge of Aberdeen. The course design makes inventive use of the rugged landscape and offers an excellent variety of holes to challenge golfers of all abilities. The opening holes, including the memorable 3rd - 'Quarry' are relatively straightforward, but the blind uphill drive on the 5th represents the start of more challenging times ahead. With four long Par 5's, Auchmill can seem a little daunting at times but there are plenty of short, snappy holes to keep your confidence up and some very pleasant woodland scenery to be enjoyed.
