I live on its doorstep and only recently played it much to my shame. What have I been missing!? The greens are the best I have seen and I've played some championship courses. It's a tricky course so it helps if you have a gps course planner type thingy. I use an app on my phone. It's great. There are lots of water hazards and some houses lining the fairways but they 'shouldn't' come into play. If you can't see the fairway ahead of you then I would certainly go into percentage play mode. You can lose balls very easily on this course. Be warned it is quite a long course. The club house is nice too with good food. I thoroughly recommend this course.
Played this course yesterday for the first time and was mightily impressed. A large variety of holes that require you to think about every shot. Compared to a few other courses that I've played recently that were pretty much just hit a drive as far as you can and then concentrate on your approach, Birchwood has you thinking off the tee. A yardage chart showing the distances of some of the streams and ditches crossing the fairways would have been a useful addition as it would have helped decide which holes you could really attack the fairways but that was the only real downside. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone who wants a good challenge and not to be bored. A good strategy for every hole is the key to mastering this course I feel and I will definitely be returning for more. It's that good that I'm even considering membership after just 1 round.
played a Birchwood for the first time on 16 April 2011, what a brilliant course... tees, fairways and greens in superb condition. Each hole is varied with water coming into play on many. The course is a good challenge with hazards on each hole making it very much a thinking man's course. Now I have played there once I will certainly go back and would expect, now that I know the layout and where the water and various other hazards are, to shoot at least 8 shots less. A thoroughly recommended course!
25 november 2010 played birchwood today for the first time, was on temp greens due to very heavy overnight frost but course in great condition other than that, it is a very flat parkland course with a fair amount of water hazards. Its a good challenging course but still playable by high handicappers (I play off 27) u do have to cross a road a few times but its not very busy and doesn't pose any real problem, would recomend this course to anyone and hope to become a member here next season. nice club house although i didn't have anything to eat the staff and members where all very friendly
I have just visited Birchwood Golf club for the first time and was hugely impressed. It is very much an american style course like the ones you often see on the US PGA tour. Lots of water features make this a very picturesque course and tree lined almost all the way round. It was in great condition with fast greens. They have a great deal on Mondays and Thursdays between 2 and 4pm were it costs just £10 per person which is an excellent deal. This is the best value for money round I have ever had. Suits the mid to low handicapper as the course is very long, you have been warned! However I cannot wait to return.
I recently played Birchwood on an invite i was very inpressed with the club house but even more impressed by the course, every hole was interesting and challenging what a great course one not miss, i cant wait to play the course again.
having recently played the course on two occasions i find birchwood to be a very well kept and enjoyable course. the fairways and greens are immaculate. the course itself favours the straight hitters as wandering off the fairway can result in lost balls. the hospitality is excellent and i would recommend this course to players of all abilities
I have recently became a member of the club and already I am very impressed. The course is excellent, the pro shop well stocked and all the staff and the other members are friendly. The restraunt serves great food. Overall 11 out of 10
