Always enjoy Boavista although there is alsways building work going on around the edges. The course was in good condition and not too busy for a Saturday afternoon. Staff in the clubhouse were very friendly and the starter let us play off the medal tees. The par 3 sixth has always been a challenge and this year was no different. ( 200 yards over a deep ravine to a green that slopes towards you with a flag at the front ) Only down side was the lack of a course planner.
Played this course May 2012. Was basically hammered for the opening 3-4 holes so they are a bit of a blur really, but afterwards sobered up. Half decent course but wouldnt say great value for money. I thought the front nine was a bit pokey but the back nine opened up a bit, and offered better, more challenging holes. 200 yd Par 3 over water on back nine is a great hole. The multitude of villas all over the place gives it a tacky feel. 5/10
Boavista is another one of my always play courses away from the tourist spots. A little tip is to park and check-in at the bottom car park and then driver your car up to the tennis academy car park. This is because you start and finish from here, thus saving you a 400 metre walk (assuming youre not lazy and taking a buggy). The first couple of holes are real birdie opportunities but dont be fooled by the benign start. Play the next few holes, especially the short par-4, with brain and not brawn. The 200 metre par -3 over the gorge on the front 9 is a favourite and youll have plenty of time to contemplate your shot as there always seems to be a backlog on this hole. You cross the gorge again a couple of holes later on a par-5, and being downhill the ball will encounter trouble is you take the driver. The back 9 has some good holes too and one of my favourites is the 17th. On paper its a short par-3 but the lake runs down the right and cuts in and splits the fairway at a couple of landing area points. The main reason I highly recommend this course is because at the end of the game youd have used ever club in your bag. If youre with non-golfers then drop them off to shop & site see in Lagos for the day as Boavista is located 10 minutes away.
What a delightful experience Boavista is. From clubhouse to 18th green it's a great resort course. Sure the development of numerous villas has meant that you feel slightly hemmed in at times (1st and 17th in particular) the the variety of holes and the quality of the tees, fairways and greens make this minor element pretty insignificant. The 6th is a classic hole and the closing 5 are amongst the most entertaining I've played. Oh and then there are the views...take a camera.
I have played the course several times (Last time September 04) with different groups of friends and everyone liked it. It's not a difficult course, but by no means an easy one.Very few people put a ball on the 6th green, and even fewer get it to stay there!Good views, terrible driving range.
I played this course at the start of March 2003, a bit more than a year after it first opened. What impressed me most was that the course felt very mature for such a new track, unlike some new courses which you really feel haven't bedded in. Boavista has a nice range of holes which are designed into rolling hills so you can expect some uneven lies and uphill/downhill shots. The holes are nicely thought out and have a nice balance of risk/reward on some of them, particularly a couple of the par 5s. Some of the bunkers around the greens have a nasty habit of being far more penal than they appear at first glance as well, so it maybe worth taking extra care to avoid these! I wouldn't think that low handicappers would find this as challenging as some courses in the area (it has quite a golf resort feel to it with villas along some fairways etc) but for now it offers better value than most in the Algarve and provided a very pleasant experience to play, despite the horrendously expensive bar which is apparently boycotted by most members.
