The change in this course over the last year is amazing. The work that has been put in on the course is brilliant, The greens are much better and all open. The fairways are well looked after they have cut the rough back a bit. which helps a lot. This old lady is back to Its best. The facility s off course aren't at the moment but There is hot and cold drinks and some snacks also Rob in the shop was very friendly, as where the members. Now one the munnies around.....
Played Bootle Golf Course last Friday - The course is in real good shape considering it's a local muni. One or two of the greens are a bit hard but it's not down to the hard work the staff are doing but a problem with the watering system apparently. The greens are nice and big and cut well, so need to be good with the putter as even on the green can leave you a long way from the flag. The driving range that the previous review writes about never happened as well as the new club house - the old one is now closed but hot & cold drinks are available from the shop.
Its a travesty putting a 'driving range' in the middle of the course and ruining two great holes (223 yd 1st and 4 layer par 5 ninth green). Its nothing more than a dumping ground for rubbish, and not a proper range. Cnsequently the course has suffered. It used to have brilliant greens and was tidy, not so great these days. Pity. A compact links layout with stretegic water hazards and out of bounds, that has been slowly destroyed by the management. Was great about 7 years ago, at the moment, would avoid it, hopefully it will return to past glories. Bootle had a great members club, which has dwindled due to course condition. Many happy memories when I was a member, heart-breaking recent visit.
To be fair Rob, it's a very old municiple surrounded by rather dubious housing estates. It doesn't help that there are local byways intersecting the course in addition to lack fo council investment in the facility. Plus, if you played anywhere in January I'm sure the course wouldn't be at its best, even West Lancs. That said, there's no excuse for rubbish and general untidiness of the course. Lets hope the new driving range and investment brings the rest of the course up to the standard of the greens. I'm not a member, but used to play a lot there as a junior - let's hope it gets better!
Played this course for the first time yesterday. It was a gorgeous day so was always going to enjoy it. It was a delightful little course. Very forgiving to your handicap 20 player like me who is wayward off the tee. The bunkers, fairways and greens were very well maintained and the only issue I had was that the tee's could have been better. However, for £10.50, it's an absolute bargain. It's not that difficult of a course and plenty of opportunity to score well if you hit is straight. The par 3's are longer than most courses though. I'll definitely be back. Feel like I've found a gem
i have played this course for the last 19 years and anyone who thinks its easy please come and play it when its windy and this year the new alterations only make it better the new driving range will open soon and that will add more to this course as a tour player i know how enjoyable bootle is and garry macca dave make it worth the trip
I don't think the last person played this course , boring layout no chance Nick Dougherty doesn't think so, burnt out cars everywhere there weren't any on Monday , bunkers are poor and so is the clubhouse but this is about to be rebuilt could be better but is playable all year and less than 2 tokens at the driving range .
Really boring layout, bad condition with many yobs around it. Burnt out vehicles everywhere and no sand in bunkers, not to mention the rubbish facilities! Cheap to play and that's it - a beginners course.
played bootle for more years than i care to remember however this is probably the worst condition it has ever been in, the greens are truly awful with lots of standing water damage which is supposed to be under repair but alas this is not being done and certainly not properly. very sad as it used to be a great course and a great test of golf.
Having played bootle golf course during the winter me and my playing partners have been very impressed. The greens and fairways are considering weather conditions exceptional.Staff are very friendly and people who play there tend to be polite.
i played Bootle last weekend after a break of a couple of years and i was VERY impressed with the state of the course. The greens are superb (better than La Cala in September) and the fairway are in excellent condition. Its a course that seems to be on the up. The staff can be very proud of their achievements. The general facilities are basic but i understand that a massive re-furb is on the way 10/10
This course is the best ive seen ot in my 6 years of playing there, the greens are superb, the aprons are in good condition, the fairways are the best ive seen them, an the rough is good.i like the way they leave little strips seperating fairways.however the tee's could be better, a bit of topsoil over them would go down a treat.well done the satff at bootle golf course.
The Greens at Bootle at the moment are probably at their finest for many years, I have played this course for 20 years and there is always 1 or 2 holes which will wreck the card, usually different ones from the previous round!! Still under a tenner for a round there are far more positives than negatives, keep up the good work.
No need to book during the week. It is a challenging course, the greens were in good condition which is more than can be said for the club house which is falling into a sad state of disrepair.
this a local course for me it offers a challenge on every hole if you look at it. could do with a bit of a face lift ie new club house which does catering. but good value and is playable all year round
I played Bootle three times during a trip to visit some relatives and found it to be reasonable course; providing many interesting and enjoyable challenges. However, I found that a little more care and attention to detail and the better supervision of idiotic young boys would have made for a more enjoyable game. More information at the tee with regard to the holes and proper sand in the bunkers would do a lot for this course. I played here ten years ago and things have changed much for the better since then. If they are prepared to push it that extra proverbial mile then this would be a fantastic course. New facilities are needed and a pro shop which actually stocks professional equipment would also be good. All in all its a good place for the money and a thoroughly entertaining challenge, just needs a greater sense of purpose.
i think that when the new driving range has been built then the course will be well better and make the course a bit harder.
Got invited to play on this course although enjoyable, I found it almost impossible to plan my game. as there are no diagrams explaining where the greens and fairways are; absolutely nothing not even on the score card, so for someones first time, one is totally reliant on thier partner. All it would take are matchstick diagrammes on the back and an arrow or two directing the players to the next tee!!
i played bootle golf club on the 2/9/03 i found it a challenging course but a very rewarding golf course there is a few problems on the golf course like for instance rubbish being scattered all over the course even tho there is bins and the tee's need a bit more care but over all it is a very nice course and i hope to play it again in the near future
played bootle on the 2/09/03 some great challenges, but i found rubbish just scattered over the course bins are evident people just dont use them, not very keen on the bunkers as some seem like merseygrit on top of mud, fairways seem a little worse for wear.
Bootle is a tough, honest links course. With two par threes` over water, some long par fours,a par five with out of bounds on both sides and a ditch to carry would make it hard enough, but the rough will kill your round. This will be a good test of your golf. However, I do have some criticisms. This course badly needs a ranger. There are too many cases of bad etiquette, and slow play due to either young boys playing without adult company,or a lack of dress code enforcement. If this course could stiffen up it`s regulations,it would attract a lot more true golfers, and with the building of a proposed driving range and new clubhouse, could up their fees, and raise the profile of this club to the heights that it`s course deserves.Despite the faults I find,I would still encourage anyone who has not played this course to give it a try. I only hope that the management give my observations some consideration.
WHILE THERE HAS BEEN INPROVMENTS MADE THEY STILL NEED TO PAY MORE ATTENTION TO THE TEES NOT ONLY THE MEMBERS TEES BUT THE PUBLIC TEES,IT WOULD IMPROVE THE GENERAL CONDITION OF THE WAY THE COURSE PRESENTS ITS SELF.EVEN THOUGH IT IS STILL A GREAT CHALLENGE TO ANYONE.P.S THE GREENS WOULD BE A LOT BETTER IF THEY HAD GOOD WATERING THANKS JOHN
june 16, new driving range and clubhouse being built will be wonderfull!!!!
Bootle is much more challanging than many would have you believe. Narrow fairways and punishing rough will test your game. a good mix of holes, some testing your driving and long iron game, others (11th!!) testing your short game. Excellent greens all year round. My only criticism is a lack of etiquette.
bootle is a good test of golf, the fees are £7.40 20p is for insurance just in case you have a bad day.the par 4 7th will test anyones ability and the 15th is a card wrecker.
