We have used this course regularly, as a couple and with friends for many years as I always considered it was a good course when I was a beginner and always had a good round and particularly supported the club through the quieter months and bad weather. It was always quiet and a great place to learn the game. After a visit last weekend we, and all of our friends have vowed never to return. The management, who in previous visits complained about the lack of customers and said that they had not maintained the course due to this, spoke to us incredibly rudely and because were playing with someone who was just starting out ejected us from the course at the first tee. we were the only ones at the tee as we were talking my friend through her posture, swing and where to aim. when a 2 ball arrived behind us we allowed them to play through as we knew we would be slow, as per golf etiquette. at this point the lady manager stormed across the car park shouting at us questioning if we had paid, of course we had, she served us! She accused us of giving lessons and couldn't afford for us to scare off her other customers by holding them up. we said the young lady wouldn't play if that was the case, but she told us all to leave but refused to refund my money back onto my card, the method I used to pay and hurled abuse at me when I said that she had lost a lot of business by her actions. The management clearly have very little care and respect for the course as is obvious by the sandless, stony bunkers and poor tees. It is severely overpriced, in the end we went to Farnham Park, which I considered to be a much more inferior course which actually turned out to be a lot better maintained and 10times busier. It's a shame it has been allowed to go so far down hill in the 5 years that I have been playing there.
Real shame that the course has not been cared for. Unmanageable rough, stony bunkers, dried out and inconsistent greens, tee off areas are bare. Hopefully the course will be repaired back to its former glory, but for now is one to avoid. When in good shape, the holes are short but with very challenging approach areas. Two of tgw holes are very severe doglegs and the 8th is a great hole for driving the green.
This has the potential to be a good course for a quick 9 holes, it was in reasonable condition up until last year (2009) but has now gone downhill. Greens are rough and muddy in places, tee positions don't get moved for weeks so you tee from bare earth - we have taken to moving them ourselves to try and preserve the ground. Reading between the lines it looks as if financials are affecting the course management, the place is looking scruffy and uncared for, the course is not playing well, winter tees were out all summer etc. The number of players has also dropped, during the summer months there could be 5 groups queuing at the 1st tee, this summer it was not unusual to have one or two clear holes ahead of us. If the management invested in the facilities & tidied the place up it would be a far more attractive option, but the builders yard car park, scruffy buildings and overall feel of the place makes paying £4 more 2 miles up the road a better choice.
good course to play on very challengin especially the 4th and 6th tee as they both are dog legs. go there very other saturday mostly depending on if me and my next door neighbour can go., good value for money as it challenges all of your skills especilly the sloping greens. good condition greens and fairways.would recomend it to people who like to play golf.
Good greens. Many slope, so putting is difficult. Fairways in good condition, with reasonably consistent grass length. I agree with the previous commentor. Fees have gone up to £10 for 9 holes weekdays, or £8 for senior citizens. Nice club house. Manic practice green. It's like a switchback ride.
Play this course twice a week now and got down to rounds of 40. Tough 4th but relatively easy par 3's. Congrats to groundstaff for a great course. Could do with buying the field next door and extending to an 18. Now that would be a course! Thank you Bowenhurst!
Challenging 9 holes, more difficult than first appears. Good test for any player and great game for those wishing to improve on short and medium irons. Facilities are complete with excellent driving range and putting greens. Warm friendly atmosphere and clubhouse offers varied and tasy food. Can get busy at weekends.
