played this course for the first time as a visitor last week and realy enjoyed it .tricky holes and well protected greens ..the bunkers were continually raked and the greens very good considering the time of year, as it was our first time we nearly played a few wrong holes but now we no the tee positions its not to bad , considering joining ,,, would recommend ,,,
Up until a week ago I didn't know Breightmet had a golf course. A challenging and lengthy course that doesn't give you a chance to relax. Tees & greens immaculate despite the poor weather. After being told a new nine had been added over the last few years, neither I or my playing partners could tell which were the new holes. Only slight downside was the local kids had pinched several flags, members & staff very friendly & food in the clubhouse well worth sampling. Now I'm aware Breightmet exists, I shall be visiting again.
When we arrived it was raining, so we popped into the clubhouse and had a coffee and bacon barm. we were made very welcome by the girl in the kitchen. service was very good and the cost, only £2.00. We ventured out onto the 1st tee, quite a daunting first shot from an elevated tee over a small stream. On reaching the green we found it in excellent condition, as were all the other greens. The course has recently been extended from 9 holes to 18 but one would be hard pressed to tell which are the new holes. The ninth hole takes you back to the clubhouse, and as the course was quite empty we decided to have a pint shandy in front of the clubhouse. The steward brought the drinks to our table outside the clubhouse and explained that the new nine had only been open for 12 months, and we paid him our green fees, £15.00 per person. Wthe asked him why there was no pro shop, and he said that was the next item on the cluds to do list. The tenth hole is a par 3 played between two big trees to a very tough green. then onto the rest of the course, long par 4 even longer par 5 anpar d a superb dog leg par 4 on the way home. We found the course in very good condition with the greens as good as any we have played this year. It is a long course and a good challenge of golf. The welcome we had from the staff we met was excellent. We will defintely be playing this course again in the very near future. It is a club that is undergoing change and can only improve over the next few years.
Well the three of us set off with high hopes having only seen the new 9 from the roadside and it looked good. Our enthusiasm was soon dampened by members questioning how we had manged to book a tee time without a member being in our group and generally we were sneered at. Being hardy golfers we thought we would ignore them and nip into the shop and get some refreshment as it was a hot day, oh wait a minute there is no shop! Bar instead, no, not open until 12. We looked for the steward that we booked it with to pay him for the round and he wasn't there either so us paying with switch was a non-starter. Anyway we set off thinking we would pay after the round when someone was about. One the second hole sandwiched between the 1st and third members were shouting accross fairways to each other regardless of whether we were playing a shot or not and this generally continued for much of the round. The course was in good condition with the exception of the newer holes that back onto the council estate that didn't have any flags in the holes, rakes in the bunkers and had holes in the greens dug out by local numpties. The layout of the course is a bit haphazard too, very difficult to find the next tee on many holes plus you are nearly always in the firing line of another hole so you need your wits about you. The icing on the cake was when a member drove off the 11th and hooked it straight into my friends ankle without bouncing and no shout of "fore" either although we were in plain view. My colleague was felled and the member gave no apology! He just wanted his ball back and made some excuse about not seeing us which was rubbish. With his ankle throbbing he soldiered on as best he could but eventually could not continue after that so we gave up having had a thoroughly good days golf ruined. Two of the three of us were seriously considering joining as members as they have an excellent deal on right now (no joining fee and you get next year plus the end of this year for one years fees of about £595), but after this debacle we aren't going anywhere near then place.
This Is a tough yet intersting course with great prospects if it was to go 18, I would recommend this course for all types of players and if possible everyone should make an attempt to play it/
A well kept course with long and interesting holes. I really enjoyed playing and feel that if the course was to be extended to 18 holes, it would be very popular. We were made most welcome.\r\n
