First impressions were not great, pro shop wasn't open but managed to get away on time. Fairways were ok if a bit long (grass length) but bearable. It was an ok course until my 1st bunker, they are awful, more twigs and stones than sand, some were hard and bare others 6 inches deep and very poorly maintained.Greens were soft and true but a lot of the holes were straight up and down with not much going on.
Played yesterday after work. Superb value at £7.50. Playing the front nine was a joy, apart from the 8 I took on the 2nd. Big, big slice off the tee followed by a big 8-iron hook into the football pitches left of the green. However there was no one around so I had the course to myself. Fairways could be mown down a bit so you lose a bit of distance on the drives but it does mean the ball sits up nicely to strike for 2nd shots. Stuck behind a 5 ball on 17th. Big fellas but not bad golfers. Just managed to finish before it got dark. All in all I squeezed in 16 holes in 2-30hrs. It's an easy going course with nice views. Will o back for more.
Just played Hartswood and was quite impressed with the course. It has been well maintained and has lots of tree lined holes which i find much better than the young courses. Facilities could do with improving, however it is only a pay n play. One thing that does annoy me is courses with no 150 or 100 markers, as an amateur these are vital, and also i think the 12th needs remeasuring as i cant believe it is only 306 yards from yellow. Slow 4 ball infront were annoying but once they let us through the game was enjoyed and would definately return especially for only £13. Great Value.
Been playing this very attractive course for years-greens are excellent, tree lined fairways and great value for money.Well worth a visit if you have never played there before .
For a public course...this has to rank as one of the best, certainly in the south east. The greens are well maintained and generally in excellent condition. The fairways well defined and maintained, even during this summer (2003) where water is at a premium. Some excellent challenging holes, and the course requires the use of every club in the bag. The only gripe is the same as that for all public courses....you can expect a four hour round...on a good day. The pro shop is excellent and friendly, with frequent special offers. With 2 for 1 vouchers accepted, it offers great value too. Highly recommended
