While on a Grand Tour of Great Britain and Ireland with Trafalgar Tours in August 1997, I was able to sneek away while in Bundoran and play this breathtaking course. The views of the Donegal Bay on one side and the forbidding Dartry Mts on the other is something I will long remember. This was my first and only opportunity I had on my 23 day trip to play golf outside Australia and my first on a links course. I was very impressed with no trees on the course, which is usually the best part of my game, but the rough soon taught me a few new lessons. I was lucky enough to play a few holes in regulation but as I was on my own at the time there was little to crow about.\r\nI did however make my mark on one of the locals. This tough young strapping Irishman was waiting seated on the grass next to the 18th tee as there was slow play on the 18th hole. I was on the 9th tee, which ran at rightangles to where he was seated about 100 metres away. I thought at the time I was playing well enough for him not to be in any trouble of my tee shot. However as' Murphy' will tell you, "if it can go wrong it will". Unfortunately for this Irishman I hit a very unfamiliar shot and caught the ball on the heel of the club causing it to take off straight towards him. He and I had little time to react and so he ended up with a fair bruise on his right forearm. I immediately inquired as to his health as a result but he insisted that he was quite alright, something I couldn't understand given the speed of the ball.. As such he became my first ever victim in golf and I'm sure he will never forget that Aussie from down under. I have not been able to repeat that shot back in Canberra where I live but I will never forget the priceless moment when as I looked around at where I was and just stood in ore at how blessed I was to choise that impressive course. \r\n\r\nThanks also for the hospitality of the staff at the pro shop. The hired clubs were also appreciated. When I finally got to St. Andrews a few days later I could still remeber Bundoran with a glad heart and the look on that Irishmans face before the ball struck him.
