I played Burgham Park on 29 March 2009. First impressions of the club are good. The clubhouse has a small but well stocked pro shop and a large lounge/bar upstairs with a balcony overlooking the 18th hole. We got a society day package for £20 that included bacon rolls and coffee before we set out. Facilities include an open uphill driving range, its essentially an open field but good for practice prior to your round and a well kept practice putting green in front of the club house. As you would expect at this time of year the course was in excellent condition ready for the start of the season, and it didnt disappoint. The outstanding hole for me was the 18th, the signature hole which is all downhill. The 17th, a par three was a difficult hole, especially as the wind had picked up. All of the greens were fast and fairways were well maintained. The weather played a major part, the week prior had been dry and sunny so the course was dry and the fairways let the ball run on nicely. Being first out meant that I was first back to watch the others come in. the balcony is the best place to watch from with a pint, especially as it was sunny. All in all an excellent course and an excellent price. Would visit again.
I played this course in a texas scramble last month and was very enjoyable. The course is very well maintained although every hole is very similar and is quite a long course. Will definately return, clubhouse is very welcoming and a great view up the 18th, but I don't think I could play here all the time as a member.
Having read the other comments I think my four ball party must have played the wrong course. We found ourselves with time to spare on a lovely summer evening in Northumberland so stuck a pin in the map and booked to play at Burgham Park. What a mistake. It is probably one of the most boring golf courses we have ever played on and we have played many. The whole course is virtually featureless with the exception of some of the biggest hares I have ever seen. The members were a very unfriendly bunch and at one stage a ladies two ball(I use the term lightly) pushed up two games behind and very rudely shouted across the fairway to tell us to hurry up as they were in a match of some description. This after we had invited a two ball behind us to go through and been refused. (The guy in the pro shop wasn't too worried when he gave us the booking and took our money). The greens were about as interesting as the people in the pro shop with little or nothing going for them. Even with 2 fore 1 tickets we found it quite expensive by Northumbria standards. This was the start of a four day golf break so it could only get better at the other Northumberland courses tomorrow, and it did. Thanks to Alnwick and Seahouses The only place in Northumbria where we didn't get the true Northern hospitality was Burgham Park, they seem to like it exclusively for members. I suggest all you golfers who play for the love of the game let them keep it that way.
The course has come on no end. Friendly staff meet us on arrival the veiws where breath taking. Only down side was we had to leave. I would recommend this course two others.
played here on a nice sunny day of july 2005. after playing alnwick and dunstanburgh on previous two days it makes great change to be in a very relaxing course. a bit flat but the course is very impressive, well kept, the greens are very true, the rough is nicely trimmed. there are many pitching and putting practice grounds to warm up into just before teeing off. the view of the 18th fairway is very nice from the club house. the course warrant another visit without hesitation.
Played here on 4 September 2002, only got 9 holes in late in the afternoon after playing another local course in the morning. Nice clubhouse, food a bit pricy (but nice). Course was pretty flat some nice holes on the front 9 especially the tricky par 3 seventh, I intend to visit again to get a full round in (but will not be top of my course playing priority list) still worth a visit.
I PLAYED THIS COURSE IN JUNE 98. AND IT WAS THE WINDIEST DAY I HAVE EVER KNOWN IN JUNE. AFTER THE FIRST TWO HOLES THE WIND WAS IN OUR FACES FOR MOST OF THE ROUND. REALLY, IT PUT A DAMPENER ON OUR DAY. THIS COURSE IS WELL LAID OUT AND THE FACILITIES ARE EXCELLENT. UNFORTUNATELY THE WIND CONDITIONS HAVE PUT ME AND FRIENDS OFF VISITING THERE FOR A WHILE
