Played this course in august 2011, It's fair to say that it's has improved massively since the last time I played it, the greens were 10 times better and the bunkers were actually lined with sand, the fairways were a tad dry but otherwise fine, it was a lot tidier around the course for example not as much litter and there looked to be more strimming done, I was also informed that a new clubhouse is being built, pleasntley surprised
If you like playing next to a building site; fairways like abandoned carparks; greens with alapaecia and complete guess work of where to play next then go ahead and play Calverley. played this 22/08/09 and it was an absolute disgrace. there are municipals better than this around leeds. the "clubhouse" was a bunch of families drinking outside with kids running around (i was told the Pro was drinking with them). Spoke to a couple of members and they were visibly embarrassed. Other classy touches: odd-balls walking their killer dogs off-leash on the course; a couple necking with each other on the 9th tee. on one hole me and my playing partner hit nice 5-woods off the fairway straight into an electricity pylon running down the middle of the fairway. Completely missed 3 of the early holes as some holes do not have signs to say which you are playing. ruined a pleasant sunny afternoon.
played here a few times avarage course with very poor greens, very very strict dress code no golfing attire with out collars,i were wearing a smart golf jumper trousers and expensive golf shoes payed at counter then went to first tee, when the chairman came running and told me to get a refund even though the course was empty and midweek unbelivable.
Played this course after work in the evening. Excellent fairways but greens quite small and covered in branches, twigs, leaves, etc! Holes very tightly packed together so you have to keep your eyes open. Wind makes things quite challenging for such a short course Excellent value for 8quid though. Would definately go again.
Calverly GC has vastly improved in the last year. The greens are well cut, and the holes are interesting if a little short in a couple of instances. Another 9 holes are in development, and more land has been purchased. Bar and pro shop staff helpful and friendly. Definately one to keep your eye on.
Poor quality greens but the fairways make up for this i would suggest that you go up the road to woodhall hills if quality greens are what you want the club house has very good beer but the food is not so good overall I would say 4out of 10
