Played this course on a weekend (Sat 7th June) not too busy but very very slow. As it is a municiple the standard of golfers can be very low and this doesn't help play to keep moving. The course itself is in excellent condition given the traffic it receives. Not too many visitors seem to know what a pitchmark repairer is and this shows on some greens. Paid £16 which seems veryu good value for money but the course is not very challenging and the holes are very short with the exception of the 11th (a 570 yrd par 5). Many of the par fours are about 300 - 340 yards and as such can be almost driven or else it's an iron with a small pitch (and no i'm not a very long hitter). The club house is nice and and the chap in the pro shop was very helpful and friendly. 8/10
Local course for local People. You can never book a tea time. It's always booked up. It's meant to be a municiple. Paid for by the tax payers but not open to the tax payers. You have to become a member to get a tea time before dark. Forget it at the weekend! Having said that there are some decent holes but it can take 5 hours to get round. There is a very lenghty par 5 that should be a par 6. Not worth the hassle in my opinion.
I preffer the back nine. 17th is a great par 3.
great golf course would play there any day of the week. a good mixture of long and short irons to the greens. normally in vey good condition.
Played Wakefield Municipal on 26th April 2006. The conditions were excellent for a Municipal with the greens playing particularly well. The front 9 is a good solid test of golf with some real variety to each hole. If only they would invest some time and effort into the back 9 which is extremely poor in comparison to the front....far too many similar holes with no real imagination applied to the layout. Another major frustration is booking a tee-off time...the phone is constantly and i mean CONSTANTLY engaged! Overall, a good solid municipal and for £6.90 (Twilight price), great value for money.
a cracking little course if not a little forgiving and lacking in challenge
Played a very pleasant 18 holes in glorious sunshine. The course was in generally good condition with only a very few patches where the ground hadn't drained well. The old temporary greens are still very obvious, and I would not have mush enjoyed the course if they were still in play, so this is not a course to play in the winter.
Became a member couple of weeks ago, nice course generous fairways ideal test to try different techniques and shots. Greens/Fairways fabulous condition considering the weather. The pro shop; spot on friendly nice guys have made me feel so welcome.Cheers
Decent course, especially for 'average' golfers. Good mix of holes, some challenging.Greens kept well. General facillities adequate but not brilliant. A pleasant day well worth the money. Rating 6/10
Undulating parkland municipal. Good value, generally poor condition and around the turn many holes lack any sort of definition, it's rather like playing in a big field. No outstanding holes to describe, not much to get excited about. Does however have a very friendly Pro and an attractive big old clubhouse - 4.5/10
The course is excellent if not a little too easy. One word of warning though. Try not to play mid-week in the school holidays. There is no booking for visitors, just turn up pay and play. This can mean a long wait with very slow four-balls holding everyone up. I have stood on a tee with over 16 people queing to play and this continues throughout the round. It can be very frustrating.
As a regular visitor of the course over many years, I have found a gradual improvement overaul. The course is always well maintained and good value for money, in my opinion I would put it as one of the best municipal's in Yorkshire.
Superb... course is kept in fantastic condition, Simply brilliant. PS The greens are cut well!!!
An excellant eighteen holes. Best Municiple in the area. New Steward - great food. Staff in Pro's shop very helpful. Course - undulating parkland course with only one steep hill. Very easy to get to via motorway network.
Excellent first nine, then like a plouged field on the way back in. A nice pint at the end though!
Superb... course is kept in fantastic condition, lovely mix of holes. Simply brilliant
