My wife paid for my round as my birthday present, and i can honestly say it was money well spent. On arrival the staff were friendly and vey helpfull, staff in clubhouse keen to pass on advice on what to be aware of on certain holes. The course was immaculate, greens run very true and well paced, for what are relative new greens. the rough is indeed 'rough' and you will quickly learn to 'take your medicine' if you stray. Each hole is a different challange, and you really need to give consideration to where you lay up , drive to, or chip from, it is not always wise to reach for the big stick on the big holes, be warned. this is a real gofers track, and will give you a sharp reminder how tricky golf is, if you dont get it right. i play off 4, and carded a plus 8, having played really well, simply reflects that i am maybe not a good as i thought. i have played royal county down, royal portrush, st andrews, troon, etc etc, and this is right up there. ps; i have to mention the green staff, i observed them on several holes and the attention to detail they put in was admirable, and again, they are very friendly and more than happy to tell you where you needed to be landing the ball, it was a pleasure to see young lads taking such obvious pride in there work, and the course. i would most definately return, and hope the wife has got the hint, that with christmas aproaching, there would be no better a gift.
we played close house on the 29th July 2010 and the course was in great condition. as you are driving in you can see the new course taking shape nicely and as soon as we arrived in the clubhouse you could tell the staff were all really excited about the new track and were really eager to speak to you about it. the current course is a really nice parklands course too. the 1st is a drive through 2 well established trees with the green protected by a small pond on the left and large bunkers on the right. it sort of sets up the day for you as accuracy into the greens is paramount. the course does afford some error off the tee with wide fairways and the rough not being too penal. noteable holes for me would be the 4th, 7th, 8th, 11th and the 17th but they are all good holes overall. its not the longest of courses but like i stated before, you must be accurate to score well. well maintained, good greens and a warm welcome make it a great place to play but im still unsure about the £35 guest fee. its maybe a little on the pricey side considering we played whickham which is a similar type of course for a fraction of the cost. overall 7 out of 10
Played today on a £25 special, Bacon butties on arrival then 18 holes. Course is a Gem, kept in superb condition. May not be the longest but by no means an easy knock. Bunkers, hazards, trees etc etc all in the right place ready to catch you out. Currently building New 18 hole Championship course not sure when it will be ready but will be back to play. Club house is the old cricket pavillion right in the heart of the course, staff friendly and welcoming. This course is a must and great value for money. Play you won't be disappointed promise!!!! Only gave 7 due to current development this will improve.
I joined Close House in september 07, recently after it had been rebuilt. ive been playing it all year up to may and i must say the quality is fantastic. it is kept in brilliant condition and some holes are fantastic. one problem is there always seems to be a large amount of grass cutters etc on the course all the time, keeping it in great condition. if you avoid this it is truely a wonderful course.
We played there on the 21-8-07 as we have never played the course since the new holes were introduced. We found the new layout excellent to play and the course was in excellent condition. It will be a pleasure to return and play again and will be recommending this course to all our fellow golfers
Good value at only £15.Course is well kept and in good condition considering how many people play it.Lets hope they don't spoil it when its re designed next year.
this has to be the best conditioned course i have played this summer tee boxes, fairways, and greens are in excellent condition and i would recommend you play it asap as it is about to be ripped up and a whole new course designed £15 quid midweek BARGAIN distance to club house a drawback but course is a1
