a pretty decent challenge especially if you like to get the driver out which you can on every par 4 or 5. conditions can be patchy, especially on the greens in spring and autumn. there are 5 new holes which are still bedding in which gives the course a strange feel. the new holes are very scenic and well designed. a couple of the older holes border a council housing estate but its a nice quiet course. some of the holes are not well defined and the greens run differently on the two which doesnt help the confidence not as hilly as most in the area and not as snooty. great pro shop but decor in clubhouse is a little too 70,s working mens club for me. probably best in summer with a bit of run on the ball
I booked our society day for a Sunday and we all thought that the course was in excellant condition with the greens running very true. Liked the helpful idea of different coloured flags denoting hole positioning on front, middle and rear of the green. All the members went out of their way to be courteous and friendly at all times. The pro. shop was well stocked and prices were very reasonable,(it is in Yorkshire after all!). We were allowed to make use of the changing room facilities for a wash and brush up. After changing into normal street shoes and still wearing our golf attire we were called through for our three course meal followed by coffee and mints. Only one word to describe both the food and service. Superb. The overall price which also included the golfer's snack before playing, of bacon buttie and coffee/tea of £40.50. Absolute bargin! I have contacted the pro. in the hope of him letting the society come back in 2010 for a full days golf and all the meals we require.
When organsing golf society days there are normally two sides to organise, the golf and the food. Some clubs recognise this and are very accomodating making it easy to arrange and to pay on the day. We played Dore & Totley on 24th May 2008. The course was good, some interesting holes and tricky pin positions. The greens were true and consistent but I felt overall the course looked a litle tatty. Overall I felt the £30 green fee was a little overpriced, definately not worth the usual £36 at the weekend. The one major factor that spoilt the day was the strict dress code in the clubhouse, we originally wanted to book a meal after golf but could only eat if wearing jacket and tie. Many other clubs have been accomodating and relaxed the rule to trousers and shirts OR most now have spike bars where you can eat. We respect clubs rules so went to a local pub afterwards, I would recommend The Norton if anyone has similar issues, good value food. The strange thing is I played this course two years ago on a corporate day and ate in the clubhouse afterwards in my golfing attire. After our round there were a couple of members in the clubhouse who were very friendly but I just don't understand why the club couldn't put some food on for us. In contrast, the pro shop was absolutely superb, it's the first time in a long while that the pro has driven the Nearest To The Pin and Longest Drive markers out before play, excellent service, also whilst playing we struggled with signage ( a usual problem for visting societies ) I mentioned this contructively to the pro and they made a note of the holes we struggled on, superb. Overall we had a good day, the golf and the service in the pro shop was first class, best service we've had in two years. It was just let down badly by an "old school" strict dress code. I'd go back and play golf but only with 2 fore 1 vouchers and not with our society.
Really enjoyed this course, the fairways are quite wide and a premium is placed on your approach shots. My only criticism is that we couldn't get out of the car park without a token and we couldn't get into the bar to get a token. Don't let this put you off though cos the course is a cracker. I found playing Dore & Totley was very enjoyable. The holes are testing but do allow low scores. I would reccomend it to any other viewers of this website. The clubhouse atmosphere is very friendly. I really enjoy playing this course.
Well maintained course. Rather flat and all the holes very similar. Not the most challenging of coarses but worth playing if you fancy a leisurely walk.
Book here now! Excellent golf course, challenging holes all with their own character, great tees, fairways and greens and to top it off very friendly Pro with an excellent clubhouse and food. Brilliant day out!
Super day out, good course and excellent hospitality.
Excellent well maintained parkland course. This course will challenge most golfers.
A great challenge, thoroughly enjoyable. Fully recommended.
