Interesting course with lots of short and long holes quite tricky for some as well. Overall I thought the course was good but some of the greens were in terrible condition when we played and definitely in need of major work. Would return to play again but wouldn't be my first choice.

Value for money wise Fairlop is very good. Ok it's very flat, but there are enough challenging holes (including a par 3 over 200 yards!)a decent bar to have a drink at afterwards, and the course and facilities continue to (slowly) improve. Not a course for a 'special day', but in terms of a place to visit to hone one's game then it's absolutely fine.

Just played on this course and i have to admit it is quite a good course. After playing at Trent Park the other day i can say there is not much difference. It is more flatter then most courses, but still challenging never the less. It has some tricky holes and even an almighty one at nearly 600 Yards! The golf course is located next to fairlop station (Central Line), it has a lovely bar and restaurant overlooking a lake. The staff are friendly, tee price's are reasonable, it has a driving range and during the day a snack cart goes around the course selling refreshments.

I played Fairlop a number of years ago and I must say the course was in a terrible state. Since then I have joined as a member and the course is coming on leaps and bounds. The greens are in good condition as are the fairways although drainage is a slight problem. I think its £20 a round at the weekend but compared to Hainault which is far more expensive and you you will be waiting on every shot. Definately worth a visit.

I have started playing Fairlop Waters again after a number of years because a season ticket works out at about £ 10 per week . It is not Wentworth but for £ 10 a week I do not expect that . I think for a person of my level it is fine . I play off 18 but find I play to about 16 around this course - last 3 rounds have scored 86 every time . The problem for Fairlop Waters is that it will always been compared with Hainault . I accept it is a flat course but I find a number of holes quite interesting . If they would take a little time putting rakes in all the bunkers and sorting out the tees I think it could be a really good course . It is a 2 minute drive from my home and I can get around in under 3 hours on a weekend which adds to the appeal to me .

I have to say that this course was fairly unimperessive. A dull course that did not seem to be in good condition. Really not very challenging and very flat. I thought that it had potential as it has a bit of distance but with other courses so near to it I do not think this course is really in the same league.

Played today in the wind and the rain, and i must say the course has improved over the years. The course is very well laid out and has always been let down by poor management. The bunkers now have sand in and the fairways and greens are now being cut. There are some great holes especially the par 5 8th and the par 3 18th. Still work to do on the picking up of dead grass that has been cut especially in the light rough which makes losing balls a certainty.

I can only presume that the groundskeeper has been let go since the last review posted by Brad Hunter. This is by some margin the worst public golf course I have played. The only thing that distinguishes the greens from the rest of the course is the slightly shorter grass. They were horrendously uneven with the ball bobbling everywhere. One green (12th) had a huge crater of hard mud in the middle of it. My playing partner had to use a wedge on the green to get near the pin! The tees are uneven and the bunkers are full of huge stones which don't do your clubs any favours. The caliber of player that frequents this course isn't much better either. I had three balls stolen (one blatantly) and if shots were mishit people rarely called fore or offered you any pointers on a wayward shot if they saw where your ball landed. All of this for £20. Why on earth would any sane person pay that when Hainault Forest (£22) is five minutes down the road? Believe me, I will not be making the same mistake again.

I have recently played both the 9 hole and 18 holes course. Both have been in very good condition - particularly the greens. The 9 hole is one of nicest layouts and most challenging I have ever played. The 18 hole is also a nice layout which being quite open is suitable for letting loose with the driver. I think lower handicap players may find the course on the easy side but netherless an enjoyable experience.

I have been playing fairlop on and off for a number of years now, and over the last year everything has improved, the facilities and the course has improved to no end.Everything is cleanly cut and looking a lot smarter. As a 4 handicaper i find the course very challenging and tough to conquer,But great fun trying to.

good course for £11.50 around greens ok and farways good.but they need to cut the the tee off area. and need to put sand in the bunkers a part from that good course .the best holes are the 5th and the 14th both par 5 well done to the green keepers R HOUGH PLAYED ON THE 27/07/04

As a new member to Fairlop waters golf club (April 04')I would like to inform golfers of the improvements at Fairlop. With new staff working on the course it has to be the most improved course around. The fairways look great with clear semi rough cuts and the greens are in excellent condition. This course is now beginning to see overflow of players fed up with the long cue and slow play at nearby courses. Monthly medals are a great day and we recently played our first "Lesley Wood trophy". The new club is really taking off and with the course looking so good it is attracting more "mid-low"cat 2 golfers.

I played this course on 12-10-03 and will never play it again. I found the fairways in appauling condition and the greens were the worst I have played on. The course itself was very badly layed out and it wasnt clear exactly where the fairways are, unfortunately it took an old bloke walking his dog to tell me i was about to take a shot towards the wrong green!

Played the course early on a Sunday morning. The course was surprisingly quiet for a public course at a weekend which was a bonus. The layout is not too bad and my favourite holes were the short 12th and the long 14th (Watch out for the pit to the right of the green). Generally the course was in an untidy condition with the greens being uncut and wormcasts abaundant. Some bunkers had no sand at all and were overgrown with weeds. Several tees had no markers. The course needs a tidy-up and once that's done it would be one of the better public courses around and not bad value for the weekend golfer.

Course has quite a bit of work going on at the moment (about time) so a number of the holes are playing shorter than on the card. It is getting better but the greens need attention.

Fairlop is my local course and it is a crying shame that the staff do not simply care. I think the course may be suffering from under investment due to the proposed race course. This does not excuse my recent experience. When paying our green fee we were advised that there would be temporary greens for approxiamately 30 mins. We waited 40 mins but nobody emerged from the pro shop. For 18 holes we had to play into greens with no flags and move the flags from the temporary greens for groups behind.

I played this course on 6th August 2001, and I am afraid to say that it was rather a disappointment. The layout includes some fine holes, but the state of the course leaves a lot to be desired. Some of the fairways have a lot of weeds and compacted dirt rather than grass, and in places you are more likely to see bunkers containing dog mess or water rather than sand. The course has a lot of potential, but a great deal of care and attention needs to be put into it first.

i played this course on sunday 30/4/00 , never again ! the fairways and rough were all the same length 4" at least . The teeing areas were at least the same if not longer. most bunkers were flooded & overflowing onto the surrounding aprons. the fourball i was in lost balls on the fairways , and even with winter rules after pick & place the lie was unplayable unless you used a lofted club for every shot. it used to be a nice course.
