Recently visited forest hill first impression was good .greens are challenging and in superb condition the layout is very good with a good test of golf.i think it could be much better though as lots of areas needed attention .tees were uneven and patchy generally It looks like a course in need of cash injection and I wish them all the best .
Played this course many years ago and recently in may 2010, I could not believe the transformation in the course amazingly fast greens superb bunkers, well groomed course, my congratulations to the new owners. Also tried the so called famous carvery, this was by far the best Sunday lunch ever, watch out Toby's
I played Forest Hill on 19 October 09 and was very impressed. The course was in good condition and there are some very nice holes. The elevation changes provide some very nice views as well as some reasonable challenge. All in all, a good day out and quite good value.
SHOCKING !!! I used to be a member here and went to play on the invitation of an old friend. It was a cold morning granted, but the course was unplayable the greens were solid(frozen)nobody could have possibly done an inspection. The general condition of the course was quite poor the bunkers edges of the green were awful.I know the course is under new ownership and hope to improve the course but they need to do this as a matter of urgency rather than over a period of time. Off the course the club house is good, but I had a terrible lunch(this was one area before you could rely on)the meal was served cold, and not as per the menu. And to top it off one of the new owners was walking about the dining area eating food from a bowl while diners were eating a total lack of manners. The best part of the set up is the driving range although some better range balls would not go amiss.Suffice to say I will not be playing this course again for a long time and certainly not eating there.
Nestled in the heart of rural Leicestershire, Forest Hill has all the makings of what could be a lovely little course. The emphasis of the club is on progressively modern, and the welcome from the staff and members certainly reflects that. With a nine hole short course, a practice putting green, chipping area, a driving range and a well appointed clubhouse serving a good range of food and drinks at an appealing price, everything is certainly in place off course. On the course, the track certainly has a lot of potential. Recently extended to par 72 and 6228 yards, there are a good mix of holes that pose an interesting challenge for mid to high handicappers. With good views over the local area, its a course that has a charming feel, and the tough par 5 uphill 11th has a sloping green that wouldnt feel out of place at Augusta. Stopping the ball is a real challenge here! Meanwhile, there are plenty of well placed bunkers elsewhere, whilst a number of water hazards add to the aesthetic pleasures of the course as well as keeping the golfer on their toes. On the downside, drainage on the course is not great meaning it can become a little boggy in parts. The greens could also do with a little more love and attention, but I believe this is something the course manager is working on, as are the tee boxes which were already a little bare in parts. Overall, a nice little course with bags of potential and one thats well worth a visit if in the area.
Course was intresting to play however the course was not in very good conditions with the greens being very uneven and two paced, in agreement with the 1st reviewer, there are some good holes although on others its more like a battleground avoiding golf balls from the course and range. The Clubhouse and other facilities were good
I thought the course was in excellent condition apart from the greens, all different paces and not very nice to putt on. Beware when on the 11th hole of golf balls from the driving range bounding over the nets and onto the fairway. 7th hole is different, only an iron to lay-up and then at most a wedge to the green which is at a right angle to the fairway. All in all an enjoyable day out with an adequate golf course and quite friendly staff. Sturn test for high-handicappers with many blind tee shots but a stroll in the park for anyone below an 18 handicap because of the shortness of the course, at most a good drive and mid-iron to most par 4's and a few easily reachable par 5's.
