I have played most courses in Wales and whilst this is certainly not the worst,it is at best below average. The course does always drain well and the club house is very friendly and relaxed. The best courses in Wales are, Royal Porthcawl Machynys Rogerstone Celtic manor 2010 Tenby Other very good courses are Pyle and kenfig Whitchurch Creigiau (slightly biased as I am a member here) Radyr Glamorganshire Cyncoed Penard Many will say what about southerndown, ashburnham, the vale, Langland bay,st mellons.! They are all good and you could argue they should be included in my lists above. But most will agree they are all better than the grove by a long way.
After deciding to play the Grove after torrential rain I was a bit skeptical as to whether the course would even be open. Upon arrival we were greeted by the clubhouse pro who was very friendly & accommodating, explaining the offers on at the moment. To my surprise not only was the course open but in fairly good condition as well, greens & fairways had held up against the best mother nature had to throw at it. The course itself is very enjoyable, on the downside towards the end of the back 9 the holes seem to a bit samey samey, I was unable to tell some holes from others. We booked the meal deal for the day & I have to state that the club house & food was of a very high standard.
Played this course recently and what a challenge. Some long and testing holes of all pars, the greens were in great shape and the course had real character about it,and had some wonderfull views. The club house is of excellent size and is very comfortable, but the staff were superb, they accomadated my group when booking fairly late and couldn"t help us enough.Thiscourse is excellent value for money!!!
ive been a member of the grove since it opened in 1997.the course is playing its longest ever.this is due to the fairways which have been narrowed and the rough has been left to grow in certain areas.the course is a lot tougher than its ever been, and getting tougher every year.the greens are in good nick and running true.the grove will be a tough test to any stanard of golfer and if the wind blows god help you.give it a try you wont be disappointed.
It is a very challenging course, some very long par 4s the greens have improved considerably and the fairways are kept very well, ther's also quite a few bunkers. There are also quite a few par 3s.2 Very challenging par 5s.
This is a good course and I enjoy it very much. I have asked my accountant to play me here to show him how good I am and moreover, that I can beat him over 18 holes.
