Just visited the course for the first time and have to say that I am very impressed. A fantastic enjoyable experience – the greens condition and the overall layout of the course is excellent. The onsite restaurant and clubhouse are definitely worth checking out - lots of choice and very reasonably priced. I live in Southampton (Hampshire) and, despite the course being in Wiltshire, it only took 20 minutes to get to the club. Very friendly and helpful staff that were more than happy to show me around as it was my first visit. I will no doubt be returning soon!
From the minute you arrive it is a welcoming club. The pro staff are accomodating, the clubhouse comfortable and the lunch menu varied & of good quality. We played the course from the tee of the day, which on some holes made tee to green considerable easier. The course itself has older holes were are demanding off the tee & some less mature holes where you can definately open your shoulders! The greens were in good condition and all 18 were consistent which any player can cope with, overall Hamptworth GC is well worth a visit if you are in the area.
Played early August entirely on spec since Salisbury course was closed. Warm and friendly welcome and just £20 for a twilight round including a free stroke saver. Course winds its way around tree lined fairways with plently of use of a significant stream. Apart from the first few holes the course was very quiet. It was a tricky course in many respects since the lack of par 5's resulted in many long par 4's which needed both a good drive and second shot. This was further frustrated by many 'down and ups' over the stream. Local knowledge is to play a short first shot and then a long iron to avoid being down by the stream. You'll understand once you see it! Well worth the diversion
Played this course in July 2003 on our way back from a weeks golf in the New Forrest during that prolonged heat wave. Despite the fact that a large society was playing that day, as a two ball we were offered an immediate tee off on the back nine and hardly saw another player! The peace and quiet and admiration for the course designer to plan such a variety holes spread over the undulating parkland deserves true praise. Some of the best greens in the southern counties in fantastic condition, the sheltered walks through wooded copse to the next tee were most welcome. Its well worth buying the course planner to enable you to select the right line to some of the hidden greens and sloping fairways. The food and drinks in the spacious clubhouse were fairly priced and of good quality, they accept 2-for-1 vouchers, which means quality golf at a budget price.
