A far better course than Lanark, new greenkeeper has made a vast improvement, still a wee bit of water on course but it is getting better drainage wise, green good.
One of the best courses in Lanarkshire if the weather is dry
Played here at Hollandbush late Sept 2012. The conditions of the course were generally wet & damp, probably to be expected following the wettest of wet summers we've had, but even so, it was a bit of a shock to be told by the starter 18 winter greens were in play! Even though we thought when looknig at them on the course, only 1 was really badly affected by the rain. We liked the layout of the course, with gentle undulations, raised greens, raised tees, sloping fairways, doglegs, and some really tight driving holes. Definately a course with nice variation, and enough to make you have to think your way around the course. Left thinking how nice it would be to play this course in good condition. One I think we'll mark down for a return visit, on a dry day. Really pleasant and helpful staff, only added to a good outing.
What fanatastic value for money thi place is! I played and unmamed newish private course last week charging £60 a round which was not half as good a course as this track which cost me £12.20! Its fair to say that it had bucketed down the previous night and following on from a very wet winter there were sone quite squelchy bits of the course but the greens were in good condition and putted truly if not quite as quick as what i am used to. But the biggest plus is what a thinking mans course this is. There are so many hazards on or just short of a driving length and the constant dilema on tees is "do I take this on or not". In breif the layout is nothing short of inspired and to be fair the original landscape is pretty good too with changes in elevation, both mature and younger trees, gulleys and burns and some attractive views. Members and the staff are also very friendly. As its just off the M74 it's a graet place to stop off on your way further north.
Very testing golf course. One that makes you think about every shot, not just a case of taking out the driver for every par 4 & 5. A real good test, and in good condition too.
Played the course a number of times over the years and have to say that, currently, it's probably playing as good as it ever has. For those who haven't played the course before it represents a fair challenge and to score well you will have to bring a good game. The first hole is a long par 5 uphill and if you get par here you're doing very well. It's fair to say that the front nine isn't all that inspiring with 6,7 and 8 being pretty uninteresting but 9 through 16 are all excellent holes. At £9.70 a round it's very difficult to think that there is better value golf anywhere in the country
I found it to be an excellent course for the average golfer, that not only tests you but offers good value for money also. Well worth a visit.
Only One Set Back - This Course Can Get A Little Marshey In The Wet. So If You Intend To Loose A Few Balls I Would Give It A Miss When It Rains. - [email protected]
