15 reviews of Hucknall Golf Centre

This course is now operating as Leen Valley Golf Club. The reviews below are clearly out of date. There has been a change of ownership and improvements are well under way. The first 11 holes provide a forgiving experienced for high handicappers while the last 7 require an accuracy and forethought to keep stronger players interested. Greens have been re-grassed though the surface can be a little bobbly and bunkers are still a weakness. There is a lack of semi-rough but the rough is punishing. I hope local players will support the club and allow further improvements to continue.

OK it's not Hollinwell, but it depends what you are after. You can get some really cheap rates on the internet, and even if you pay in the club house on the day it isn't expensive. It can get boggy in the winter but the fairways are more than acceptable. The greens are not great, but then again you are not paying for snooker table like surfaces and once you get used to them they are OK. Yes there are some relatively boring holes, but there are some decent holes which are a bit of a challenge. There is a very good driving range and the staff are always very friendly as well. So I'd say taken as what it is and how much it charges, it is fine. If you are after immaculate tees, fairways and green then look elsewhere, but if you are after a cheap accessible friendly course then give it a go.

on arival at the course we were welcomed nicely. We had 25 balls on the superb driving range and a little go on the putting green. We then went for our round. The first hole was rather easy and when we finished it we couldn't find the 2nd hole! We made our way round and teed of at the 13th. As we made our way to the fairway we had to use a small bridge to get over a stream. it was there that my day was ruined when my slipped down a gap in the bridge! the staff acted superbly giving me a lift back to the club house. I recomend this course to any one from beginers to pros!

Three of us played this coure Sunday 22nd April. £21 each for a round and two buggies. Pretty good value. Being first time players to this course we could have done with either a course map or a general idea at each tee, but that's really the only negative. Throughly enjoyable course with some great views. We will definitley be back.

Played there on the 22nd April 3 Players - Round of Golf Each and 2 Buggies - 21 Quid First Impression of the Course was good, very big Course with lots of Hazards to challenge you and open Fairways. The Greens were okay. Having the Buggies was Brilliant as was a very hilly course, so need it. Only problem I found with the Course was there was no Map, they had the odd Posts to start with tellnig you where next Tee was, but they dissapeared after a while and was no little Map on the Scorecard. For Instance, on one of the Hole's, was a Par 4 and dipped down a hill and to the right a bit, now without a Map, you did not have a clue about this. I would say Overall apart from a little Map to tell you the Positions of Flag, that it was a good course and the Buggies were brilliant. Had a great day out and would recommend it to anyone.

Played my first round there with two friends who were also first timers, as they have mentioned, there were no maps! That was really the only negative (althought the toilets were a bit nasty). Nice course, good value, buggies were a nice bonus as the course was hilly, some sort of device to stop my ball from slicing off the tee would have nice too! Would definately do again.

Played the course on 19 Sept 2006. Eight players 36 holes with buggies for £80, just £10 each! Course was in good condition and the greens were great, much better than some of the other local courses we had played that week. Good quality food in the clubhouse 2 meals for £7. We were made to feel really welcome by Richard and his staff. I will not hesitate to recommend this course to anyone. We all had a great day out and if in the area again it will be the first course we will book.

I have to largely agree with Derek Russell's review from last year. I last played the course about 5 years ago, and was only playing it again as it was a charity golf event. The course has improved somewhat in that time, but overall I wasn't impressed. The greens were the worst I'd played in years which will take some sorting out. What would require rather less effort would be more sand in the bunkers, proper signs between holes, to tell you where to go (I got lost after only the first hole !!)and proper (and correct)hole numbering (they have recently re-configured the course, but the old hole numbers are still in place). There were also no course maps - A photocopied map would have been perfectly acceptable. I won't rush back, even at the price.

Although i had heard bad reports about this course i booked a fourball for the saturday morning. it was wet and cold but this didnt ruin a good round of golf. a couple of the hole you are hitting blind off the tee, but it only takes half a brain to realise a general direction you should be hitting. they are in the process of building a driving range so the layout has changed a litte, but we were provided with a course map to aid our progress. greens were very nice once on them, and we will be going back again once it is summer as i feel this course will be even better when its dry. a good day out was had by all.

I played Leen Valley on a rainy day recently and must admit this might have coloured my views. The round was certainly cheap enough but I feel there are better value courses in the area. Work has obviously been done on some derelict land to turn this into a golf course, but I'm afraid this course was not for me, with a feeling of being in between sand dunes on a number of holes.

I have just taken this game up, 4 months now and i find this course very good, i've been 3 times. Some teasing holes on the back nine. Very hard course in strong winds as it is very open. The greens are very good, but have ago i liked it

Leen Valley is currently charging £5.00 per round in the week and £10.00 at the weekend ,making it just about the cheapist 18 hole course around .What you get is a full 18 hole course ,with some interesting holes and god greens .However at present its basically a building site with mounds of earth around every corner along with diggers etc .Apart fromthis the other problems are the poor draining fairways ,greens that a touch to small and rough that in places is impossible .None the less not a bad course that I ASSUME WILL BE BETTER BY LATE SPRING . 5/10 .

I play this course regularly and find that the greens are always in very good condition, as are the bunkers and fairway, unfortunately, the land underneath the course makes it hard to drain in the wet weather.

This course is a testing but reasonable course not for the faint hearted. Some of the fairways slope left to right and vice vesa, but in general it is very good.
