7 reviews of Izaak Walton Golf Club
I joined Izaak Walton approx 6 years ago when it was still fairly new and had some way to go to give the course definition. The course today is fast becoming one of the best in Staffordshire with excellent greens and maturing trees which makes it a test of golf but enjoyable to handicaps of all levels. The catering is still first class and still serves the best chips for miles around and represents excellent value for money. I am now a Director of the Club and look forward in helping to steer the club over the next five years by making it the number one venue in Staffordshire for all age groups with the emphasis on building a New Club House and promoting equal opportunity club. From first entering the club house everyone has been very friendly (as of July 2006 I had only played golf 3 times before). The secretary was very good he has given me details of 2 other golfers at the club who have also joined recently and like myself do not know any other members. The course has a very open and spacious feel, but the rough and water can be very difficult to avoid. Overall my first impressions (I became a member late July 2006) are fantastic and am really enjoying the course.
INFORMATION The club has a new website - link to www.izaakwaltongolfclub.co.uk Thanks Steve Haynes Captain IWGC
It is 5 years since the last review and what a difference 5 years can make. The course is both challenging and well presented. With water featuring in different guises on 6 of tighter front nine and longer back nine rewarding the longer hitter, it has something for everyone. A variety of holes will last in the memory - whatever your golfing forte. The food is still excellent in both quality and value, the variety of wildlife is something to behold, the welcome is phenominal and the golf is absolutely great value for money. You may think that I would say that as Captain this year - try it and see.
Have visited the course every year since it opened and it gets better and better as it matures. Definitley not a flat and boring slog. One of the hardest courses I've played, for playing to ones handicap.Friendly clubhouse and good food.
Ive played this course several times and have to say it is not one of my favourites.the course is young and not yet matured. Some of the holes were not very interesting(10,11,12th).Nevertheless there are some difficult and interesting holes and in time the course will improve. Last played 1998.
I have played at this course with a member who has recently joined. And of all the courses that i have played at i would say this is very reaonable regarding Price, me and my dad got on for around 11, food their was fantastic, i thought i was just going to get lasagne on it's own when i ordered it instead i got chips, and salad, and the service was brilliant. \r\n\r\nThe course is quite long and not that hard to find. As i mentioned a member has to sign you in but it is a brilliant course and i will be visiting it again sometime in the near future.
