Agree with the previous reviewer about the warmth of the welcome and the nice food on offer here - very good! The course itself isn't overly long, so with lots of run as there has been lately it can appear to be easy, the trick here is managing the greens and keeping it striaght. The main defence is the slick greens. Seems a little odd to start with a short par 3 but its one you need to concentrate on - miss the green and par is very hard to get! Very nice atmosphere generally though. Would happily return.
Played here for the first time in their seniors open on 8th July, a real gem of a course, mature and well looked after. The whole event was well staged and a credit to their members and staff. The greens were in excellent condition as was the whole course; they ran true with many subtle borrows and were a joy to putt on. Not an excessive number of bunkers, but plenty of grassed hollows which I believe are just as effective in penalising of line shots to the green. However, one element gave me a little concern on the back nine. It seemed that in common with many of the older coursers, some tees had been pushed back to lengthen the next hole, and subsequently I found my self playing into greens with a mid iron with players standing in quite close proximity on the next tee. Now in the main, this would not be problem to club members who would be well aware of the correct club to take, but as a first time visitor I was a little concerned and sometimes under clubbed to be on the safe side. That said, and to be fair, I heard very few shouts of fore during the whole day, so perhaps I was being over cautious. We had an excellent meal in the modern yet traditional clubhouse, served by very pleasant and efficient staff. Overall, a great day, on a lovely course, will definitely enter again, and recommend it to anyone for a challenging round at lovely course.
