6 reviews of Kirkby (Liverpool Municipal) Golf Course
Played on 6/6/14, since Formby Hall have taken this course over it is improving week by week, still a lot of work to do but has the potential depending on how much time and money they are willing to spend, staff friendly as ever and a new burger van situated at the clubhouse(considering putting this on the 9th) while work being done, added bonus is £2 a pint, well worth a visit for £11 per round, and you will notice a change in just a few weeks.....slight downside is the bunkers, like hitting from concrete, but looks like they are concentrating on the greens and fairways first, looking forward to this course getting back on track and will be playing a lot here if improvement continues.
As i have now been a member of kirkby golf club for 1yr, i have seen this course improved alot and is still a challenging round of golf, fairways in good condition, bunkers have now been filled with new sand and the greens are now starting to come together, the cbhouse is in good order with fine food and cold/hot drinks, very warm welcome from leon and pauline the staff, get down to this course for a great round of golf.
Havent been to this course since 2011 thought i would give it another try after hearing from friends that things have improved. Good value for the fee, much improved course, greens are in great condition. The club house is now open with very friendly staff and good food. There is also a refreshment van on the 9th which is most appreciated! We will be regulars now.
First time I've played at this municipal course, really good value. Greens and fairways are well looked after, some parts look at bit tatty but overall the course and round were great, well worth a visit, will be back
£12 for a Saturday morning tee time is excellent value, so any negatives have to be off-set against the very cheap green fee. Those few negatives are that the teeing areas could be better maintained, some of the greens are a bit patchy and played on the slow side and the yardages were out on a few holes - for instance the par 3 17th doesn't play as long as it reads on the card. On the positive side, improvements have been made to the short par 4 3rd and 8th holes to make them more of a challenge and the bunkers seem to have been improved and are now full of nice, white sand making them a fairer test to get out of. On the whole the course was in pretty good condition and despite it being busy, the pace of play wasn't too bad once we got to about the 5th. Not much of a club shop but like I said, any downsides can be overlooked when you're only paying £12. Definitely worth a visit.
Fairways and greens in very good condition, the bunkers let things down the sand in them is very poor and there are no rakes available. The club house was closed so was not able to get post game refreshments.
