Played the sister course 'the castle' with my mate Mark end of July 09. It was £25 for the round, what a bargain it was in stunning condition, all holes were a test and interesting (espescially for me as I had a mare) mark scored 38 points of the whites!! Great reception with a pencil and course planner given out by the lovely receptionist. Recommend this course every time. We have committed to go back to the more expensive old course soon, that looked even more awesome. Clubhouse was nice but food was basic, as we found across our tour of Ireland. Am glad to say that I have played Lahinch even if it was the sister course - superb..
A truly magical golf course, set right beside the Atlantic Ocean so subject to the vagaries of the weather. How a major has not been played here is a mystery, only its location can be the reason. Each hole is different and the holes by the ocean are inspirational requiring every club and thought process imagineable.Just make the effort to go and play it The clubhouse is basic but friendly and the food is served with charm and cheer Incredible
This is a great links course and worth every penny. It's tough, not easy to score well as the greens are slick and well protected by bunkers - anything off the fairway and you'll be coming out sideways. There are numerous memorable holes which all contribute in making it such fun to play a course like this. Lahinch town is a 7 iron away and is a great place to stay for a few days -great pubs and restaurants plus a magnificent beach. I can't wait to go back.
I played my first round alone at the Castle course several years ago, aged only 11. It is a genuine links, wild yet fairly forgiving. I would strongly recommend it to any higher-handicap golfers in the area - a true delight
I played Lahinch in sept 2003. It is a true linkscourse with blind shots, humps and bumps, gullys and mounds, huge dunes and marren grass. The original Tom Morris' holes (4 and 5) was interesting. We had some great wievs over the Atalntic and the bathing gilrs on the shore. The only disappointing thing was the time it took to play. first round we made in just over 4 hrs, second took us over 5 hrs (due to some slow americanos). If You want to play two rounds, ask for an early start and You can take the chance and not prebook the second round. If there are tee-times available on the spot the greenfee is not more than 25 Euro for the second round.
One of the Jewels in the Irish golf courses crown. We had a great time and the course was terrific. From the starter to the caddie, the staff made us feel like it was our course. The greens ran true and the fairways were great. This should be on everyones "to play" list when in Ireland. The town of Lahinch was like the golf course, it's made for the true golfer. Had a great time.
