Just had the weekend at the Lodge and it was terrific. The course was in excellent condition and the greens superb considering the amount of traffic on them.Course was busy with society golfers but speed of play wasnt too bad The staff were super too always helpful and pleasant, food was pretty good too.We are planning to return next year ,well worth a visit
It is definately a wall to wall golf fest. Nine hole pitch and putt (wedge and putter only required), six hole church course (didn't get to play it), nine hole short course - with two par 5's on it (I would say three of these holes would stand the test on much better courses icluding the water surrounded first - 160 yd par 3) and the 18 hole main course (set up for society players of all standards). Course was flat and fairly open, greens were subtle in terms of borrow on main 18 but had a much more seaside feel to nine hole course which was very different. fairways were a little hard, and needed water but it had not rained (until we arrived), and the water that was on the course was well used. Staff were extremely helpful and accommodating and food was very good. Even served two real ales at pub prices (not hotel prices). Log cabins were basic but clean and tidy - pretty much what was requiredwhen you are out all day. Would recommend to others. Maybe a little on the pricey side but generally good for golf.
Half term. A trip to the South East where the weather is milder...and supposedly drier. 3 nights at the complex with the 2 lads - had a good time overall, accommodation okay (a touch pricey given 3 sharing a room), food great, staff friendly. No complaints. ...Only let down was that the course was so wet after the recent snows, rain etc. All greens were on very temporary temporaries, which with the forward winter tees, meant the challenge of most of the 400 yard plus par 4's was reduced to a mere drive and a chip. The longest par 3 was a 9 iron. With most of the bunkers out of play there was virtually no distinction between the holes and no defence other than the lottery of putting on fairways and a couple of well placed temp placings. Can't blame the course staff for the conditions, amazing we could play at all. The actual greens looked superb and the fairways were certainly well kept given the time of year. Can imagine the course is both challenging and a pleasure when playing to its full length. Would like to say we would visit again, but a bit far from sunny Leeds. Course ratings reflect what we experienced at the time.
My companies society have played this course for the last 5 years, and in truth it just gets better and better as it matures! Currently our format see's us play the 9 hole manor course in the morning. It kicks off with a lovely little 160yd par 3 with water behind a bunker protected green, then a short 280yd par 4, a short 90yd par 3 and then after that the longer stretch of the course kicks off!. Overall not a bad course, reasonably tight and only the one problematic extended green (3rd). Then we play the 18 Lodge Course (Main), currently its in great condition and really does suit the BIG hitters down to a tee!, Great fun and has some interesting holes, particulary the middle 6 holes, some of the par 4's measuring up to 430yds! With the investment made in the log cabins this is really worth a visit in its current state and I really do recommend a visit!
3 good courses all in excellent condition (bit flat) well woerth a visit Food very good accomodation fine
I am a regular at Lakeside and the reason I keep coming back is the sheer quality and the challenge. I actually began playing golf at Lakeside and after the divots I left on my first round , the ground staff have done wonders keeping the greens, tee's and the fairways in tip top condition throughout the year. I advise anyone to give this course a go and the accomodation is at a great standard. If you do find any balls with 6 dots on them, they are mine so can you please leave them in the pro shop for me. Go and enjoy yourselves!!!
This is where I normally play golf. It has a tendency to get very busy at weekends so it is best to book in advance. The Lodge course is mostly flat and a fair test, with a good mix of holes although the 1st & 2nd are awful if you slice. The fairways are always in good condition with good drainage, and the greens well looked after & good considering the traffic. Pro Shop is well stocked & friendly & Club house has good facilities including 10 pin bowling, with good range of food (but check availability during the week). If you play this course have fun.
