Our party of 11 played Leven on Monday 17th May 2010 on a lovely sunny and not very windy morning. We went there without any breakfast and not knowing if we could get any but the chef took our orders and while we waited we were given a tour of the clubhouse by the Captain which i thought was a nice touch, the breakfast came and it was a plate full with tea or coffee and very reasonably priced. On to the golf, the course was in fantastic condition and the greens fast, i would recommend buying a course guide as some of the holes are blind drives. but all in all it's a beautiful course with some tough holes. The approach to the 18th is a choice of lay up or try and carry the burn, i duffed my 2nd into the bunker short of the burn, chipped out then on to the green and nailed a 40 footer which was a great end to a great round of golf on a lovely golf course. I would definately play here again if up in the area. Only minus point would be lack of putting green but we were told they have laid 1 but it's not ready yet.
We a group from Germany and the Netherlands played this course on a strong wind, rainy , chilly morning. The weather was such that the starter called us men with character, including ourselves there were 8 people on the course. Even in these conditions or maybe because of this was the highlight of our trip ( we played 8 courses in 6 days including The Jubilee and Crail Balcomie and Craighead ). Fast and true greens even if they were soaked, lots of choices to be made, fantastic views , Links golf as it should be. Complete that with a gorgeous Clubhouse, very friendly and welcoming staff and a small tour through the clubhouse and history by the secretary of the club. Anyone planning a trip to Fife or even in a 100km range has to play this course.
I played this course simply because it was close and welcomed us with no gripes and with an hours notice, what a very pleasant surprise. The tees were in great nick and the first 8 holes really lovely, a classic links challenge. The greens were all superb, several of them were blind and all of the fairways were in great nick. At the 1/2 way point there were 2 or 3 holes that were not up to scratch and then towards the end they again because a challenge. As on many links courses that runs NE/SW, there was wind behind going out and in your face coming back, what a difference this made. So a great thinkers course, very friendly, not too challenging, but plenty of surprises and above all a fantastic setting with lovely views. Worth a visit if you are in the area.
One Of The Friendliest Clubs That I Have Played At. An Excellent Choice If Two Rounds Are To Played In A Day.
The Leven Golfing Society is the 11th oldest club in the world. The course is an Open qualifying course when the Open is at St Andrews
