3 reviews of Los Arqueros Golf Club
Last played the course over a decade ago. My memories of it were not good, but I have to say I am glad we returned to give it another go. This is certainly not a boomers course, and anyone who doesn't try and plot their way around will end up with very few balls left in the bag. Very tight in places, but it's not long, so common sense off the tee should see you right. Greens were in decent nick when we played, as was the course generally. Decent value and well looked after. Worth a visit, but as I say expect to leave the driver in the bag more than you would normally.
Great facilities and good value as we played in the regular Pata Negra competition on a Saturday morning. The course itself is unbelievably tight and some of the criticms levelled at places like Monte Mayor could equally apply to Los Arqueros. There are some holes with lateral hazards on each side which destroy what is otherwise a spectacular setting. Greens were inconsistent, slow and badly pitch-marked. If you aren't too concerned about scoring well and want good views of the coast and top-notch facilities then this is a worth a visit.
Designed by Seve and built within a smart complex of villas and apartments on the main road to Rhonda. The limited space available to Seve by the deveopers of the complex has been well utilised with a tight but fair challenge for golfers of all levels. The course traverses several ravines and boarders the residential areas so does not reward the wayward driver. However typical of Seve it does not necessarily reward the cautious percentage player. I found that on a number of holes at 3/4 iron range from the tee the fairways were tightest particularly the 7th and 12th. I compromised with some steady 3 woods It is a risk and reward course long accurate drives and you are set up for a great score. Signature holes are the par 5 8th and 12th which are as good as any on the whole coast. Course was generally in good condition however around the sprinklerheads the ground was sodden. Also the greens on the par threes were damaged by unrepaired pitch marks. Do people not bother when they are on holiday? The club house was very friendly and inclusive with great food and amiable staff. However for food i would suggest El Cotto a Argentinian steak house a few miles further on up the road towards Ronda. All together well worth a visit especailly as it was when i was there the cheapest course on the coast!!!
