10 reviews of Marriott Sprowston Manor Hotel and County Club
Returned for the annual golf tour/break after being here two years ago. Sunday escape package. I remember there were lots of bunkers, but forgot about the steepness of a lot of the fairway bunkers. They did their job, which was to penalise the golfer for entering them, much to my annoyance in the first round. Some of the bunkers needed a bit of work, which was happening on the Monday. Greens were fine. All in all a very good course to play and excellent value for money.
2nd review having just played. Course still good and excellent value at £20 (2FORE1) on a Saturday. Judging by the standard of golf witnessed and 4+ hours they no longer enforce their handicap cert rule. While good value to play, being a Marriott they aren't shy about charging off course. £4.95 for a Guinness simply takes the .... well you know what! Would still recommend overall but for more serious golfers there are lots of great courses in and around Norwich and many more in Norfolk.
Stayed at the Hotel on a two day golfing break over the May Bank Holiday, ideal venue, wives in the spa the boys on the course. Found the off course facilities exceptional, well equipped Pro Shop, with a good driving range and putting green. The Clubhouse was also very welcoming. I played on the Saturday morning and although the course was busy, a mixture of regular locals and a couple of large groups we were able to complete the round in 4 hours, without feeling pressured at all. I found the course to be in good condition, the greens were true and most notably there was more sand in the bunkers than some beaches I have been on. All in all a very good weekend, one which I am sure will be repeated again.

Just returned from the annual golf trip. Tried Sprowston Manor. Played on two baking hot days. Facilities are what you would expect from the Marriott Venues. The course itself is excellent and was in quality condition. Lots of challenges to keep you thinking. Make sure you have done some practice on your bunker shots. There are lots of intimidating and demanding bunkers (ended up hardly using the driver). Great to par the hardest hole, but even better to finish the round off with a birdie in front of the bar with lots of people watching.
Off course is quite impressive, but as one of Marriotts 4 star venues to be expected. The bar and outside area is very relaxed with excellent putting green along side. Driving range & Pro shop also very good. Played on a busy Saturday so expected slow round but official starter was keen to point out rules which seem to work as we were round in well under 4 hours. Course has been refurbished in recent years and still looks quite young in places. Greens were large and quite testing. All the par 5s were exactly that & mixed in with some testing 3s & 4s made for an enjoyable round. Paid £20 on a 2FORE1 on Saturday - Excellent value.
I live in Norwich and can't believe that no-one has reviewed the new course. This is a cracker! It's long, has some beautifully designed holes and the greens are fantastic. Obviously some of the course is still young, but don't let this put you off - when you walk off the undulating 18th green you'll have a smile on your face!
The new course has the potential to be very nice. Unfortunately the green keeper seems to have lost control of the course. The rough is out of control and infuriating and where they have planted saplings they have just allowed the rough and the weeds to grow wildly amongst them. The bunker sand seems to have been collected from a day trip to the beach at Great Yarmouth. The course is therefore an eyesore. The clubhouse has now gone and been replaced by the Jest bar. If you are looking for a game of golf where you will spend most of your time looking for balls that are a yard off the fairway and with no atmosphere at all then this is the place for you.
Don't bother until new course is open. Old course is reduced to a disjointed and very short 9 holes. We phoned and booked, not told of course disruption, took a day off work, travelled 80 miles, only good thing was the weather. Not worth £9 let alone £18. New couse looks like it will be good when finished.
31/07/00 What a fantastic course. Travelled up from London for the day and was absolutely impressed by the course which was recommended to us. Staff very, very friendly and accomodating. Long par 5's and tricky par 3's. Only disappointment was an unexpected downpour when on the 16th, we still managed to complete the round, albeit drenched, otherwise a very enjoyable day. 10/10
