2 reviews of Marston Lakes Golf Club
this is one of the best courses in the midlands, although it is only 9 holes, i would challenge anyone to go round it level par or under. there are 9 lakes for 9 holes, as well as bunkers, rough and out of bounds. the shop is also very well stocked, with very helpful and friendly staff.
This course is worthy of a try. It's just over the motorway from the Belfry, and consists of a nine hole course and a par 27 9 hole pitch and putt. The main course is more challenging than you might think, with lakes almost everywhere - as the name suggests. Just a single par 5, but plenty of interest, particularly the third where you have to make a tough decision between laying up for a good spot or letting it rip to give you a birdie chance. The 8th looks easier than it is, with hazards and out of bounds on three sides. The pitch and putt is used as a training course, but offers nine interesting holes, particularly the third where an accurate sand wedge is essential. The main course is rarely busy, and in perfect condition the last time I played. The groundsmen are clearly proud of their course and the winter tees can be a little over zealous in their use. The pitch and putt can get busy, particularly in the holidays since it is open to all. Since the course is part of the hotel there are plenty of bars etc, and the pro shop is well stocked, with Darren and Andy particularly friendly. There is a large driving range with recently upgraded balls, but the automatic tee machines are a pain, since they are always going wrong.
