7 reviews of Mortonhall Golf Club
Played on Thursday 30 April 2015 as part of our week golf trip in Edinburgh Area. As per my previous review from October top notch yet again, Gorse bush flowers were in bloom which shows the course off beautifully, the greens were lightning a real defence for the course not that it needs it! Superb in every way. That good a couple of the group put it straight into there top 2 courses ever played which is some accolade as we have played a few and the fact they wanted to go back and play the next day had we the time etc is a great statement
Best course in Edinburgh (pro's quote) and oldest playing course so I believe. He was not wrong, a belter of a course that bit me bad and cost me the week long trophy! We arrived to what looked like an old clubhouse but wow what a building inside, all modern, hand towels in toilets etc no paper towels here! £45 for the green fee was well worth it. The drinks prior to play were the cheapest we had by far, we never ate but I looked at menu and the food was very cheap. The course itself is long our higher handicappers struggled a bit but I thought it was a brilliant course with a great mix of holes. The view from the 2nd alone looking down on the 17th green was quite a site. We will definitely be using Mortonhall on our 5 day trip again should we return to Edinburgh. The pro was also very friendly and knowledgable. Well Done Mortonhall we shall return.
I had the pleasure of playing Mortonhall in late May of this year. The gorse was in bloom and the course looked spectacular. There was a wonderful mix of holes on a course I would rate at medium in difficulty. The greens were very good and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Certainly one of the best courses in the Edinburgh area, though probably under-rated. The course rolls through gently undulating moorland with many trees, making club selection interesting. The greens in general are in good condition all year round and seem to drain well. There are some great views of North Berwick and the Bass Rock from the 8th on a clear day. Altogether a highly-recommended challenge, but do try to avoid the heron with your tee-shot over the pond at 17!
Tough to Medium tough course. Excellent views over Edinburgh. Greens in excellent condition June July August, other periods very bumpy. Rough very rough and left to nature. Simply keep the ball on the cut grass and all will be well.

A medium to dificult course. The Scenic views around the course are quite spectacular. A fine test of golf, and well worth a visit.
