Played today in a visiting 3 ball - hailstones prevailed but we completed the course and have to say that given recent weather, course was in excellent condition - wives joined us for lunch where we were made most welcome by bar and kitchen staff who admired our commitment and enjoyed a nice lunch and couple of drinks. I have just read the previous review and compelled to ask what planet is he on - flats, car parking, theme park is that his opinion for every piece of land with a fantastic view - and just curious where's his own golf course is perhaps we could help in it' s redevelopment or is he just nimby !!!! Newquay GC thank you for an enjoyable visit ;-)

Played here February ,2012 . I liked the feel of this links & club. It has a great setting & location. The course is set on a descending slope down to the cliff above Fistral Beach which enables you to see the sea from every hole .The holes predominantly run crossways .The course is quite compact & is surrounded on 3 sides by properties but i liked this hemmed in effect. Nice mix of short & long par 4's , 5 par 3's & i think they've got the balance right that makes it enjoyable .The layout is well designed with the land available .Good bunkering. Homely clubhouse. The only drawbacks were 2 of us being behind 2 members 4 balls with a clear course in front of them from the 1st tee for the whole duration of the round ,entailing a lot of waiting & a long round. Also i think the standard winter green fee( £33) is too high with about £25 being nearer the mark. We played it in thick mist with only occasional glimpses of the sea so i would like to play it again to get the full view effect but even so i would definitely come back again anyway. Kevin B.

We played Newquay midweek 19th November in very high winds. Like others have said it is a difficult challenge when the winds do blow It was the first time we have played here and despite a course guide,it was difficult to get yardage right over the footpath which runs across the course. ( it did lead to a couple of extra shots ) I think the course would quite straight forward without winds for a regular golfer who had played the course a few times Some lovely holes on the course which despite the winds made the day very enjoyable We found the staff very good and with a nice welcome We would love to play the course again ( hopefully in less winds )

A better course than it first appears. When you look at it from the 'outside' you think you might be able to get away with murder. As it is, you might be able to escape with a spot of GBH here and there but, elsewhere, a plethora of bunkers (and some extremely nasty pot bunkers that wouldn’t be out of place at Rye) are waiting to punish you. On the downside, yes it is a bit cramped and traipsing to and fro across the public footpath that divides the course does become somewhat repetitive. It's interesting that there have been a few comments about the price – we paid just £15 after 2pm and played 27 holes, which was a bit of a bargain. The 4th and 12th are both really good par 4s but it's the par 4 17th that stands out as an absolute cracker and which is almost worth the green fee alone. Then again, 'Young B' and I got more than our moneys worth with a cracking matchplay game as the sun set over the Atlantic... 6.25/10 'Young P' (h/c 10)

I have played Newquay a number of times the most recent being in early October. I don't understand the previous report, the new Professional is wlcoming, the members are friendly and the course is in superb condition. The view is magnificent from just about every hole and if the wind blows it is a test for any golfer. If your in Cornwall I recommend you try it for yourself.

Right from the moment you get there this couse feels like a municipal (no disrespect). It's tatty in places on and off the course. Some holes are unfair if you play there for the first time(forget the course guild it's crap), the greens were fine, as with the fairways but the rest ??? The view is to die for.

Newquay is great fun, in great condition and a good test of golf. I note that some of the previous comments, but some of the members tell me that this course changed out of all recognition since the new head greenkeeper arrived in 2003. There is no way a golfer can ever call this place "bland" or "boring". Check for yourself.

Played Newquay with my son in early September. We can say that it is very good value, being a fantastic course in excellent condition and a stiff test (we did have a strong wind blowing). We received a friendly welcome. It's like a links course (firm fairways and greens, deep bunkers, etc) but on a steep slope, so you have to be accurate (and fit!). No easy task to play to your handicap.

A course that colleagues and I have played occasionally over the years. You either like it or you don't (I do!) and it's perhaps harder than it at first seems. A little pricey too.

Some good holes with a links feel, others are a tad boring, but overall it is a good test and on a summers day there is no escaping the holiday atmosphere. The course is set right in the middle of the town and overlooking the main beach.

I played Newquay with three mates on a windy day. Not my favourite course, very boring and silly in places. But I want to play it again, because next time I might just have a clue where I am going. Yardage chart is a bit confusing, some of the distances do not seem right, first is supposed to be 40 yards short than the last but does not seem to shorter at all. A couple of interesting holes, and some silly. A bit expensive for playing on a field with a few flat bits and a few holes. Best way to describe the course is a bit of something and nothing.

Nice course but bit pricey for a course that is a bit bland in places, but very difficult with the wind from the sea, worth playing just because it's local
