6 reviews of Newton Stewart Golf Club
Day three of our tour of Dumfries & Galloway brought us to Newton Stewart; dont be fooled by the easy starting holes score well on them, the trouble starts from the fifth onwards. Some good climbs up to the tee boxes and then down into the valleys before climbing to the raised greens. The greens themselves were certainly better than the first course we played on Monday. Good contours and tricky slopes mad three puts quite common. The 150 yard markers were good, but the signage, or rather the lack of it from green to the next tee was very poor, and with no course planners we certainly wondered about on several occasions searching for the correct tee. On the back nine we let a 2 ball through, members, and when we commented on our problems, their reaction was well you will know better next time hardly the best response to encourage visitors back again. The course its self is a good challenge with some tough holes that require accurate shots off the tee, very undulating , some youngsters and the elderly might benefit from a buggy but as we are only in our 60s and early 70s we managed well enough, but a few extra balls in the bag wont go amiss. Back in clubhouse the atmosphere from both members and staff left a little to be desired. Glad we played it, but probably wouldnt bother again.
We played Newton Stewart as part of a weeks tour by a society of nine and gave it top marks of the five courses we played. This is a `must play`if you are in the area, each hole is different and the greens and general maintenance are first class. Our society were bowled over by the course, the friendly attitude of the staff and members, and we are already discussing when we can play it again. If you are in this beautiful part of Scotland, take time out and play Newton Stewart, you will not be disappointed.
a great golf course and i will return without a shadow of a doubt ! First class !
I thought this course was wonderful, the best of the six I have played in the area. Every hole presented a different challenge and course management was vital (unfortunately I failed the manage some of the holes correctly). I played in an absolute downpour for the front 9, but after it stopped, the water quickly disappeared. A true "hidden gem" in Southern Scotland, highly recommended to everyone.
A group of friends and myself travel to Scotland each year for a three day golfing break. Of the courses we play this is the finest and we return here every year guaranteed!!
The new 9 has spectacular views over the town and coast. One of the most undiscovered treasures of sw Scotland.
