I have played at Norwood around half a dozen times over the last 10 years however my most recent visit was the best experience yet! The course has enjoyed a facelift in recent times (nothing too dramatic so that it is not recognisable) but enough to give make the round a little more enjoybale. Fairways were in good condition and the greens were on the whole consistent, if a little too slow with the odd bump in parts. That said, I would highly recommend the course to anyone visiting the area, or indeed residing within the locale who hasn't yet indulged. Moreover, some of the views from the course over the farming heartland of west nottinghamshire are simply delightful. A must see!
Set in the grounds of a fabulous Georgian country house, Norwood Park Golf Course combined scenic views with a variety of challenging holes, which proves to be an enjoyable experience for golfers of all abilities. The greens, fairways and bunkers are well maintained are therefore the golf course can be seen as excellent value for money, especially if you play in the winter on reduced green fees.
What a great course.played here 6/9/11 and i have to say its the best course ive played in a long time, its up there with hollinwell, sherwood forest and coxmore(its prob better than all of them.i play off 4 and found this course very hard, best greens and fairways in nottinghamshire
As a Notts resident, we are blessed with many courses accessible to non-members that cost around £20 a round and this is probably the best at the moment. It doesn't market itself as hard as some of the others like Ramsdale, Springwater and Oakmere Park and so is played less. For that reason it is much the better for it. I played with two friends a fortnight after we'd had a round at the magnificent Holinwell GC and we all agreed that surprisingly, the fairways and greens were in better nick at Norwood. There's a good mix of holes and though it's not massively challenging, there are enough water hazards, out of bounds and tree-lined fairways to make it well worth a go. We paid £22 each as we couldn't find a voucher but they do take them here and on 2-for-1 deal it would be the best value course in the county by a mile. But credit where credit's due, £22 is not over-priced. I've paid close to that this summer and played on some awful tracks with threadbare fairways and shocking greens. There's also a proper grass driving range, decent practice green and friendly staff in the shop and clubhouse. Well worth a look!
Played in a Society match early October this year. Thoroughly impressed with the course, friendly staff, and value for money. All the holes are fun to play and all offer a different challenge. The new back 9 has bedded in well and adds to the overall impression of a well maintained golf course. Our only gripe was that we couldn't evaluate the greens as they had recently been sanded. This however has made us more determined to re-visit in the summer to see if they're as good as the members make out. If you want good food, good service and a very enjoyable golf course, Norwood is well worth a visit.
Played here on a winter deal £15 which included a meal which turned out to be good value. The coure starts with two bland holes on the flat then moves into the park (which is the best part),with the ninth finishing next to the first. The back nine which is the new part is not bad for an american style and is entertaining. The condition was great(played November 24th)with the large undulating greens of good pace, fairways short and not patchy. The tees were mainly of mats but what do you expect in winter.Overal this was value for money. I will be going back in the summer to see what it is like of the true length.
We played this course over the Christmas period and was impressed by both the organisation and the condition of the course considering the time of year. The greens were in good condition some being very tricky to read. Overall I had positive feedback from our members and this is a course I would definatley revisit probably in the summer months.
What a lovely golf course - we played it on 7th August 2007. Great value of money!!! Set in wonderful surroundings, quiet and peaceful. Good challenging holes, especially the first par 5. We shall definately be returning in the very near future.
Played here yesterday. Although there had been a huge amount of rain over the last few days and more during our round, we found the course to be in really good nick. Greens were very true and reasonably quick, fairways good condition. Only part of the course which I felt was a real let down were the bunkers. Some did not even have any sand in, just pebbles. If they can correct that then definitely a course to play if in the area.
Played in October 2006, on a very wet day after a week of heavy rain. The course was quite squelchy in places, but on a better day would be a good challenge. The best holes are 4 to 13, with the most interesting layout and best challenge - the first three are pretty flat and uninteresting, and the last few seem to rely on length to make them difficult. Practice facilities are good, with more development seemingly ongoing, and the welcome is very friendly.
I recently played Norwood Park on the 30th August 2006, and can I just say what a superb course it is. Me and my playing partner thouroughly enjoyed our round. The course was in excellent condition and rain overnight had just softened it up nicely. I specifically enjoyed the beautiful Par 5 4th and 6th and felt these were very challenging. Although I must say my favourite hole on the course has to be the tree lined 11th. Beautiful dog-leg to the right, with spectacular views from the green over the rest of the course. I found the staff extremely helpful and must give my thanks to them. I hopefully will be playing there again soon. P>S Wonderful driving range, but could do with building a practice bunker!
we played norwood on a saturday july 2006 - arriving at norwood on a nice sunny day - we found the golf course alittle hard to find but we got there - the little clubhouse was ok - being on a 2fore1 voucher - we felt we were in for a lovely treat - what a shock we were in for. Tee areas poor - fairways poor - greens poor - the course was crying out for care and attention. we will willingly not play at norwood again
I have played this course on 3 occasions during April 05. Although the first 3 holes are fairly straight forward par 4s, every other hole has its own characteristics, in particular, the par 3 12th which has a wonderful view of the surrounding area from an elevated tee. The greens are in excellent condition for the time of year; quick and difficult to read. The scorecard includes a guide to the position of each flag - check the notice board in this regard before you tee off. This course is good value for money and well worth a visit.
I have now played this course 3 times this year and am impressed with the way that the layout has made the most of the mature parkland that was available. The greens are particularly testing in slope and are mosrly raised so that very accurate shots are needed to get close to the pins. It is also a good test of chipping when the shot is not quite so accurate ! It is obvious from the level of greenkeeping activity that Norwood intends to be first class.
I played Norwood Park yesterday and can say it is an enjoyable course to play. I was however, surprised with the condition of the front nine particularly. It had a feeling of simply being a number of holes in a large field, and the fairways did not feel like true golf fairways. This is the only criticism I would have, as I feel the design and layout of the holes were good and offerred a good challenge. Certainly worth playing with a 241 voucher.
