The new layout of this course is interesting and a massive improvement. Sadly the course course is in very bad shape. Some really nice holes have weeds and animal mess all over them. It is so over grown that a straight tee shot ends in a lost ball. The greens that for some reason the pro shop seem proud of, look like they have been burnt out through lack of watering... at £10 for 9 holes or £15 for 18 I still felt that I had been robbed.
Not sure if this fits a gap in the market or not.... +ves: the driving range is pretty good, auto tees are great unless you are a leftie like me ! Staff are friendly. -ves: it's in poor condition and is pretty much like hitting a ball around your local park. I go there with my lad from time to time just to get a bit of practice on the range and then hitting a few out on the course and we've never really had a problem with slow players as its generally fairly quiet. A few years ago some new (pretty decent) holes were added and some old ones disappeared and overgrew. The plan was to extend this to an 18 hole course but its a long time coming and nothing is happening to my knowledge. No idea what the future holds for Oast Park and whether it will ever grow to its potential. The potential is there but it hasn't moved at all over the last couple of years and is slowing going further into decline, which is a shame.
Discount wouldn't be given to an experienced golfer so I understand the staff not giving discount!! Why would there be prices shown if they were going to be different when paying? I do not understand your problem there. For a small 9 hole course with improving greens, £9.00 for an adult and £5.00 for a junior in the week is not at all expensive!! The staff at the club I found very polite and happy to help. There is a bar which was great, cheap pints! £3.10 for a Fosters which is cheap as chips, nice clean pint too. There's a function room there as well, which is a lovely size and cheap, it's a shame it's not advertised. I recommend the sausage bap!!! It's a shame this place isn't advertised!!!
i have just played oastpark for the first time in a few months and came off very happy with the new layout of the course, i will be playing there a bit more often now, its still nice and easy and makes for a relaxing round, although you do still need to be accurate with your shots, still has the problem of slow play but generally you can play through ok. dont expect too much just go there and enjoy a stress free round
oastpark is my local course but it is by no means a hard course to play, the greens are getting better after all of the weeds that were growing on them especially the 5th green but its getting better. Its nice to actually see some green staff working there at long last i saw 2 in one round, they still have a major problem with one local walking on with a 4 iron finding lost balls and just smashing them up and down the course, why should anyone pay to play when people like this can just walk on for free, it has been the same guys for the last 3 years and nothing has been done. i think you are much better off going to other local courses like cobtree manor or poult wood where there is better courses and are better value for money and everyone has to pay. on the upside the staff are very friendly and very helpfull.
I am by no means an accomplished golfer. However, I could see that there is a lot of work needed to be done on the greens. Other than the weed-ridden, lumpy greens, the course is a nice place to play with its attractive surroundings. I enjoy using the mechanical tees on the driving range, despite the huge blue pillars in the way of my backswing.
This is a 9 hole course that starts with a very hard dog leg right par 5. The holes are separated with orchard trees, and sometimes, drives can go onto the other fairways. The greens are quite good though. I lost a lot of balls playing this course, but i also found a few! Overall i would recommend this course for any golfer.
This 9 hole course is, I believe, under new management. Over the past 3 months the greens have improved 100%, althought this may have have a lot to do with seasonal variation it is obvious that a lot of work has gone into the course in that time period. A back 9 is, apparantly, in the pipeline with evidence of building work to support this. As a very new Golf addict I would hightly recommend this course to new and experienced alike.
The course is only 9 holes at the moment, and the weekday fee is £12.50. In general, this is quite a flat, straightforward course but when I played it, it was in excellent condition. The greens are a bit small but very smooth. My only gripe was that after the round, there was no bar or food available. Otherwise, a very nice course, well worth a visit.
The course could be affectionatley described as rugged though club players might be more colourful in their description of a course that needs a bit of time to mature. The orchards make some of the holes quite a challenge, and water hazards come into play on the 6th and 10th. I enjoyed it. The course suited me because I don't hit a long ball.
