I love Oswestry. It is a wonderful course, nicely challenging but always fair. It drains like you expect a 100+ years old James Braid designed course would. The club recently had a wonderful new clubhouse built, and you definitely feel that as an organisation it wants to welcome visitors and new members, but it does'nt always succeed. The whiff of the 'old school' still pervaids. But change is difficult and doesn't come overnight. Visit Oswestry to experience that magnificent James Braid mini masterpiece. You'll love it.
I always look forward to playing at Oswestry...bit of a hidden gem. The course is always in top class order and the greens / general condition is excellent. It's not long but a thinking man's course and very fair...good shots are rewarded and errant ones are punished. The course also plays particularly well in the winter when many others can be extremely wet and muddy. A proper golf club with a bit of history and tradition and aways a warm and friendly welcome. with the new clubhouse facilities are top drawer. Well worth a visit!
Played the course as part of a society visit on the 7th of March, and what a delight it was. After playing Mile End next door last July in wet conditions with flooded greens and waterlogged fairways I was slightly concerned to be playing Oswestry in early March. However there was no need to worry as the course was in excellent condition with firm fairways and very good greens for the time of year. Oswestry is a beatifull parkland course with trees lining almost every hole making accuracy off the tee important rather than length. There are many elevated tees and greens with undulating fairways making it a real challenge for all golfers. The staff were all very friendly and everyone in the society thoroughly enjoyed the day. A great course which I would play again and recommend others to play it at any time.
Simply great. A real golf course, suitable for all handicaps to enjoy, not some montrous championship course. Excellent condition even in poor weather.Pleasing on the eye with marvellous greens.Cant wait to play it again when hopefully it wont rain all day. Very reasonable green fee for the quality, and a friendly club house with good grub. Perfect!
A great challenge, you need to be driving the ball straight here, but even if you do you still have to contend with amen corner as I call it the 13th 14th and 15th are card killers, the 13th being long and well protected, 14th 15th and 16th in dry weather is a must for the left side of the fairway even then you will find your ball in the rough on the right. You need to think your way round this tree infested course not all the par 4's require driver for a short second shot so don't use it for the sake of distance because it can put you deeper into the trees.
