Played the course for the first time yesterday (09/08/11) and found it a very pleasurable experience. The course was in great condition especially the fairways!! None of the holes have a real WOW factor but in turn none are the opposite, they are all good holes. Also the guy that dealt with us in the pro shop was quite possibly the friendliest most helpful I have come across in 35 years of playing the game.
Played last week, having used the place a couple of times last year, and was appalled at the state of some of the fairways (coils of mud as caused by worms was plentiful) and nearly all of the greens, which were bumpy, bald and far from true. It was a Sunday but given teh state of the place, it would have been nice to see one or two people working on the course, I'm told it wwas under snow for a month in jan/feb so it might improve as the spring kicks in, but currently at £25 a round it is far from worth it,
I played yesterday on a deal offering as much golf as you could manage after 11am for £15. The course is certainly long particularly with soft fairways but rather than making it a challenge this makes it boring. The fairways are wide and most greens poorly protected offering simple chips to recover. The worst examples are perhaps the 6th & 17th (both par 3's over 200 yards) where a straitish but mishit tee shot 10/20 yards short of the green offers a very good chance of par. The yardages often seemed wrong with differnces between white and yellow discs regularly overstated by 10 yards and 150/200 yard markers frequently underestimating what was left. On a course where second shots regularly required 5 iron or above this is a real problem. I always enjoy a new course but there are very few good holes here and it felt rather like being on a driving range. The professional claimed that pros find it a challenge which I find incredible.
Having just recently taken over at Park Wood Golf Club I have found one of the best golf courses that I have ever played, it is a good challenge for all levels of golf. Although, at the top of the hill it is built on a plateaux and is therefore relatively flat and is quite easy to walk around. The greens are USPGA spec and are in play in all seasons. It is truly a great golf course which is amplified by the friendly nature of the clubhouse, its good food and its professional staff who will look after you throughout your visit. Don't delay and play it today and you will agree with my sentiments. Handicap 6
Played Park Wood on a cold damp Friday last month (June!) Had the place to ourselves and really enjoyed the course. Some good par 3's over water and one real monster par 5 ensure that one is not bored playing here. The greens were receptive and ran true, although they were slightly off colour. The fairways are wide which is just as well because the rough is very tough. Really needs a good wedge into the back of the ball to get it out. I played badly, but still had a good day out. Fine clubhouse with a well stocked bar.
cracking course great value for money! very friendly professional who clearly cares about the course welfare. enjoy a twilight round at a very reasonable rate. very good variety of holes.
Classic new course. Open about 6 years. Fairways hard on the feet. Need a few more years for the grass and trees to establish themselves properly. Not a bad course. Need to keep it on the fairways as there's a lot of rough and trees. Greens in nice condition although a little on the slow side for my liking. Nice and quite on the day we were there. £40 a round (Not worth it) but they have a 2 for 1 for anyone who turns up. At £20 it's worth trying.
