Day five of our tour of Dumfries & Galloway brought us to Powfoot. The clubhouse is being refurbished, so there were temporary changing facilities in the car park, but the main bar and lounge are open, so don’t be put off. This is a very easy walking links style course, in very good condition, again few bunkers, but plenty of gorse and heather, if you end up in it, just take your punishment and play the shortest route back to the fairway. Really great greens with some fantastic slopes and sweeping borrows, the best greens we played all week. Good visible distance markers, some of the later holes run along side each other, but for once this didn’t spoil the layout. Both out on the course and back in the clubhouse the members were very friendly, they were happy to suggest some alternative courses to play next year after hearing of our disappointment at some we played this year. I think we would play here first on our way to our hotel in Kirkcudbright and judge the rest of the courses against this one, as it was the best of the lot.

Played the course at the end of march 2009. The course was excellent and in very good condition. There was a variety of holes as well, with a number played only yards away from the beach over looking the cumbrian hills. Awesome. Well worth a trip to this true links course.

Very enjoyable links course with typical greens and fairways. Well worth a visit, particulaty on the cheap golf vouchers. A big let down was the club house which is desperately in need of modernisation. All though clean, im glad i didnt use the showers and the changing rooms were very cluttered, untidy and not particulary pleasent. The food was good quality in the club house

tremendous course and love being a member, especially this season as the greenkeepers have worked extremely hard to maintain the course and are allowing it to keep its reputation as one of the regions top courses

What a gem. Stayed at the hotel you can see at the eastern edge of the course. Managed to obtain last minute tee-times (11:00am) for 7 golfers on a sunny Sunday morning in September despite the fact that a major comp was taking place just shortly afterwards. A lovely course to play, easy walking, superb fairways & greens (a credit to the groundstaff),and excellent catering afterwards. Extremely accomodating staff in the both the pro-shop & clubhouse. A 'want to go back & play again' course.

If I were ever to move to the UK, I'd want to live near enough to Powfoot to be a member of this fine club. Perhaps the most enjoyable round of golf I played in the UK. The course is in lovely condition and the staff is warm and friendly. This course offers a bit of everything. Go ahead and pull out the driver on No. 5. With very little trouble between tee and green, it might be your best-ever chance at an albatross ace!

excellent course with quick greens contrast of links and parkland set in wonderful location on the solway firth. We have visited the dumfries area on many occasions and always try not to miss this 1st class course. The staff are generally very welcoming and the food is good,a very good test of golf whatever level you may play and very good value for money.

Powfoot has been described as a gem on the Solway Coast and how true that is.This is a hidden delight for any golfer seeking an enjoyable days golf and an easy test on the legs. The course will be in great condition and you will be assured of a warm friendly reception in the clubhouse. If you are lucky to get the chance do not miss it.
