Had the pleasure of playing this course several times, whilst staying on the resort with my family. As the only golfer in our party, I was grateful for the willingness of the club to pair me up with other groups. This is quite usual in Portugal, but, obviously, everybody has to be happy with the proposed arrangement. The course is a typical Portuguese resort course, very scenic, immaculately presented all round, with few weaknesses to report. Eight holes (I think) run along the sea, quite open and very "linksy". The remaining holes are in complete contrast, being more parkland, tighter fairways and plenty of trouble in the trees if not accurate off the tee. Off course, the facilities in clubhouse is as good as any and it also has an excellent restaurant, providing pretty good value for money. My one cautionary note to anybody thinking about staying on the resort, would be to be aware that many of the villas are owned by non-golfing "weekenders". These individuals appear to relocate from Lisbon on Thursday or Friday, perhaps bringing hordes of kids for all day birthday parties and the like. The owners of the villa next to ours brought a large dog each weekend, which they then left outside every night and which barked constantly. Our complaints to the resort were met with complete indifference. All in all, this is an impressive golf resort, but although I would return to play, we would never stay on site again.
Played Praia D'el Rey last week. The course was in really good condition and is stunning location. We were staying in Cascais and it took over an hour but well worth the jporney and its well sign posted. Only complaint was that we had 10 of us playing a team competition (2 teams of 5) playing as 2 x 4 ball and 1 x 2 ball. They tried to pair our two ball with another couple which would have ruined the competition. Fortunately both our pair and the other couple refused but apparently this is quite common as the course is more busy than others in the area.
Very scenic and in truly great condition. A must play if in the area. If you are staying in the Estoril / Cascais area allow 2 hours to get to and find the course. Well worth the effort.
I thought this was one of the best courses I have ever played. Excellent condition and the views from the holes along the coast are spectacular. Anyone going to Lisbon must play this course and such a bargain too.
Truly spectacular. The course was in superb condition throughout. The inland holes were challenging but nothing prepared us for the setting of the string of holes meandering along the clifftop which were comparable with the best. We played our round to the sound of huge Atlantic waves breaking on to the beach. A real sensory overload. A 60 minute drive from Lisbon is more than worth it - the green fee for a course of this quality is a bargain. As a bonus the beautiful medieval walled town of Obidos and the lagoon are 10 minutes away, great food and views. This is a absolute gem. Will I go back?? You betcha!
This course is a must play for anyone visiting the Lisbon Area. Off the back tees the course offers a serious test of golf for any player. The holes of the course offer a variation rarely encountered anywhere. The front nine offers a tempting glimpse of the ocean but disappears into a wonderful selection of parkland type holes where accuracy and judgement are paramount. Early in the back nine the course reaches the Ocean and offers a spectacular set of classic links hole and the views along 12, 13 and 14 are unrivalled in my experience. Though never easy, the course is a pleasure to play and will reward good golf. When you have finished your round the facilities of an excellent clubhouse await. My only criticism of the course is that with such a selection of fine golf holes the Par 3 3rd is ordinary and the Par 3 13th could be great if it was only longer.
