Agree 100 percent with the previous review. This is a very enjoyable course to play and provides a decent test of golf. The highlight was the condition of the greens which, without exception, were fast and true. The front and back nines each have a different character, the front nine being rather flat (except the excellent dog-leg right 2nd which requires a drive down into a valley and then a short iron back up the hill to a hidden green) whereas the back nine is much more hilly. The back nine is without doubt the more interesting with some real stand out holes such as the par 3 14th which requires a long iron to a green situated about 100 feet below the tee and par 5 17th which wanders through the valley down to a green protected by water. Warm welcome and a tasty burger in the clubhouse! Also seems to have decent practice facilities. Will return for another round if I get the chance.
What a gem of a course. This must be one of the best parkland courses in the area. The greens were fast and true due to recent good weather and better than the some at the Lytham coast. Notable holes were around the brook which runs in the valley which the course is built around. The elevation changes were particularily well used not only for the golf but for the aesthetics. I played when the bluebells and rhododendrons were out which looked lovely. Will definately play again and enjoy a pint of the real ale on the balcony.
Played Preston GC on a 2fore1 this week. Very enjoyable round with a number of notable holes. 2nd is a nice uphill par 4 to a sloping green, set in a bowl. 3rd & 4th are long par 4s both require accuracy and length! The best holes in my opinion are the 9th, a short downhill par 4 (290 yds) protected by a stream in front of the green. The 16th, a long-ish severely uphill par 4. And finally the 17th, a gentle left to right par 5 down to a green once more protected by a stream. The only downsides were teeing off a mat on the par 3 1st & 12th (a minor grumble), and the greens which had recently been treated and as such were a bit inconsistent. Will play again, given the opportunity!
