You'll like it, but not a lot. OK, so maybe you will like it a lot, but it's reputation rather exceeds its real quality. It is a very good course and you wouldn't be overpaying at £50, particularly as it's keep in excellent condition, but it's all a bit too 'water and sand' for the connoisseur. It's a poor man's Wentworth, rather than a Sunningdale. And why, given the cost of the venture, did they go for the bog standard modern 'doctors surgery' clubhouse look?
WOW. What a place, from the warm greeting when you arrive, the free practise balls, ball marker the cold drinks after the ninth (nice touch) to the pleasent goodbyes. Played in mid April and just wish I could have done the course justice with my play. 10 years golfing and this is best course yet, except maybe Monte Mayor but for different reasons. A bit pricey but well worth it, would recommend.
Remedy oak was a fantastic experience from the moment you drive through the impressive and imposing entry gates. The staff cannot do enough for you and the friendly greeting, complimentary range balls, bag tags, pitch markers, tees, pencils, etc makes a big impression. It's not cheap to play here but it stands out a mile from most other courses and you feel that you are playing somewhere very special. The course didn't disappoint and so many of the holes have picture postcard scenery. I can't think of one weak hole and the par 5 2nd, par 3 4th and short par 4 8th stick in my mind as being especially memorable. The 18th won't be to everyone's liking with it's 90 degree dog leg and you'll need to be well positioned off the tee to have a shot at the green with your 2nd. I hit the perfect tee shot but fatted my 2nd into the water in front of a group watching from the patio outside the clubhouse. I'm good under pressure! The only disappointment was the greens. It was mid-March when we played so they were never going to be in perfect condition but they were very sandy and lacking grass, whereas the greens at Broadstone the following day played brilliantly. This is only a minor point and I'm sure that in a month or two they will no doubt be immaculate, like everything else at Remedy. This really is a must play course and a memorable experience.
This course is easily on a par with Sunningdale, Woburn and Wentworth. I loved it. From the fantastic welcome you get when you arrive, to the good food in the clubhouse, to the excellent practice facility, this place is a class act. And as for the course - the 2nd hole wouldn't be out of place on Augusta, and the rest of the course is a gem. Make sure you take enough club off the tee on the 18th though, otherwise you will not be able to hit the green and finish the round in style! The best young course I have played in the UK
