Just became a member of this club and since I am a junior the value for money here is exceptional. It is £130 a year to play as much as you want on one of the best courses in London. There are 2 putting greens, chipping green and a proper driving range (no astro) real grass!! One thing I find very convenient is that the 9th green/10th tee is right by the clubhouse so if your short for time you can just play 9 holes. Course condition is excellent. Tees exceptional, fairways green, bunkers with sand and always raked and very challenging true greens - they are very quick too. Will be playing here most days this summer!
Played here midweek February 08 (£25 using a county card). Decent parkland course that fits in with it's affluent area. When you arrive you go through an entrance archway & the impresssive georgian clubhouse comes into view & gives a feel of opulence. The course is easy walking , well laid out( hardly any walking between greens & tees & the holes turn inside nicely towards the end) & has a good mixture of holes. There are six par 3's (although this is a lot ,it doesn't feel as if it's too many ,as it's nicely balanced) & four par 5's.Another plus was that there are only 2 par 4's over 400 yards so you're not constantly flogging long irons in . What elevates this above the average parkland course is the pleasant, relaxed feel & the clever design touches .Some potentially run of the mill holes are enhanced by good visual bunkering & mounding & strategic sleepered ditches .Also, there's an underlying feel of links about it all .A good example of the ditch positioning is the one on the excellent dogleg 17th which really makes you think about your 2nd shot. Although the par 3's are fine, there isn't really one that you get to & go wow .(In the AA golf guide they say the 4th is 'often descibed as the best short hole in the south'.It would be way down my list). The big shortcoming here were the greens. For a course of this standing (& also the regular, overpriced £50 green fee, probably set as much to keep the riff raff away as opposed to rating it as such)they were poor & probably the most disappointing i've putted on this winter.Taking the time of year into consideration i found them tricky to read & didn't feel they ran true ,especially putts less than about 8 feet which seemed to meander off at the end. Despite this, it didn't detract from what was an enjoyable round & i could happily play this course on a regular basis. Kevin B.
What value for money!!! This course is really interesting and very well kept. On nearly every hole you have to think about every shot, nothing is as it seems with undulations and tricky greens which are well protected by bunkers. The tees and greens were brilliantly kept with well groomed fairways. The club house is fantastic and great facilities, only downside I could see is the fact that you cannot book a tee time and its first come first serve. Would be worth a wait though as it really is a gem, in beautiful surrondings that close to London for that price it cant be missed!!!
