A lovely course. Not being able to get on my course due to a competetion it was good to be able to book at short notice. The course was in good condition. The wind was pretty harsh but only made for interesting shot selections. I enjoyed the first 9 more than the 2 and would question some of the stroke indexes as to me they played a lot different to the card. I also thought the front 9 had more character however purely personal opinion ( and may be shaped by my 3 pars coming on the first 9) I agree with the other comments, the greens are extremely hard and when the wind is blowing almost impossible to hold them without running it on from about 30 yards. Overall though a maturing course with some stunning views. A good day out, good game and excellent hospitality in the clubhouse

played rothbury on tuesday 3rd august 2010 on a blustery day. after a warm reception from the steward we had a quick cup of coffee on the decking which overlooks the 1st and 10th tee box. the scenery is beautiful with the simonside hills etc. the course itself used to be a nine hole course (with the current back 9 being the original). the back nine in my opinion is by far the better of the 2 but there are a few interesting holes on the front 9 too. the 4th and 5th are back to back par 5s and if you can get a good drive away they are both very scoreable holes. the 7th is a driveable par 4 but beware of the bunker which is very well positioned at the front of the green! noteable holes for me on the back nine include 11th, 13th, 14th 15th and 17th. my only gripe with the course on the day would be the greens which were very hard (it has been a while since there has been any sort noteable rainfall) and it was impossible to stop the ball on the greens. i found myself pitching the ball 30 yards short of the green for it to run onto the putting surface. the fairways were well kept though and the rough wasnt too penal. i would certainly play the course again (preferably on a calm day) and im sure i will make the return journey at some point. overall 7 out of 10

What a superb course. Yes it is a little short for thoses who are used to playing long parkland courses, but non the less its a good test. Played May 2009. We (14 of us) landed a great weather day and that added to the feel of the day. Front 9 are the new nine and are built on the hillside and make you think about your shots as balls can run easily out on the slopes. The back 9 are more flat and edge the river. The course was as ever in excellent condition. We were treated like royalty by the staff. Lots of tea and coffee before we set out oh and great bacon sandwiches! The two course meal was also great and washed down with a couple of beers out on the decked balcony watching some other guys finishing off their round. 10 out of 10 rated club/course and we will visit again no doubt. Its worth the 1 hour drive from the Newcastle area - it's a gem!!!! £35 each for Tea/coffee, sandwich, golf & 2 course meal - its a steal!!
