This is a good course, with the greens, fairways, tee boxes, and bunkers being maintained to a high standard. The course layout is good, never getting the feeling that two consecutive holes are the same. The par 3s are all pretty short but defended by deep faced bunkers. There's a nice mixture of long and short par 4s. The par 5s are not overly long and should be a birdie change for the low handicapper and a par chance for the higher handicappers. My only gripe would be to have better signage for where the next tee is. The staff were all very welcoming and helpful. Would thoroughly recommend this place.
Very nice course, only let down by very slow greens.I assume they're normally faster? Friendly staff, decent food. All round a very good experience.
Choosing it seems the only "dry" day in two weeks of rain in April, it was a pleasure to play Sonning on a bright afternoon and other than eventually catching the "fourball from hell!", a very enjoyable round indeed. The course is just one week into a complete re-hash, the first major one it seems in its 98 year history, and it seems the 1st is now the old 8th and which also includes a new 18th, a fine dog leg par 5, in fact as good a hole as any on the course. A friendly welcome from both the pro shop and the office set the afternooon off to a good start, but there is a certain tree to the left of this "new" 1st hole that needs to be avoided (or chain sawed!). What soon becomes obvious is that there are some mighty long par 4's that in many other courses would have been re-rated par 5's, although a fine array of 4's also that can be nearly driven, in fact this humble 11 handicapper drove through the 4th, but still only managed a par! The difficulty and length of the holes is evident from the SSS being one more than par on the white tees, a very unusual situation. Overall, the course is easy walking in a mature parkland setting with fine trees and plenty of gorse and whilst will never set the world alight in comparison to the best courses, is a fine test and one that can be recomended to all
Stunning the course is fabolous
beutiful
Played at Sonning in the first week in May.The welcome in the pro shop was very good couldn't be more helpful. The course was in exellent condition and the greens were fast and true.Sonning demands good shot making at all times with the first holes being fairly long Par 4s.It is one of the courses I will play again when I get the chance
Lovely course. It may be my imagination (not played it that often) but it always seems to be very green and luxuriant. Good greens, good fairways - not overplayed and nicely interesting. Not talked about in the same breath as the better known Berkshire/ Surrey courses but in a similar vein. Very charming, very rewarding.
