The first four holes are fair for the higher handicappers but still nowhere near easy. The 5th is stroke index 1 (par 4 450) which required 2 VERY good shots to reach the green. The remainder of the front nine are fair. However the back 9 are a really tough test even for lower handicappers. Tee shots not landing on the fairways by and and large need to be chipped out for the second shot as the rough is pretty tough. The final three holes provide a tough finish with accuracy the key. A very good course and hope to play again. £95 green fee during the week not cheap and could put off the less serious golfer due to the severity of the course
I played this course with a society. The day was warm but very windy and I had the best round of golf that I have ever played in my life before or since. I had a hole in one on the 8th,birdied 9, 10 and 15 and finished eagle birdy eagle and only bogied two holes. I won the competition by 14 shots. Because of this I've never been back. Well, I mean, would you?
Played this course on the winter deal at the back end of march for £45, that includes a £5 voucher for lunch. Course was in excellent condition and the layout has no weak points. Not a pure links course but do not be put off by this as its a great test of golf. Staff and members very freindly and welcoming. I would happily pay the full green fee when i return its that good.
Played the course in May 2009 after a real downpour and the greens were flooded before we started, after a short break we were allowed to start expecting the course to be hard work. The course was brilliant the greens, fairways the overall conditions were great, the course a true challenge but fair. I recommend that if you love golf go and play the course you wont be disappointed.
Played in December 2009 on our club's Passport Scheme (Fairhaven). Our group of four were all very impressed with the course and the club house. The course was in excellent condition considering the time of year and we are all very keen to return in the summer months. Would heartily recommend this course to anyone.
played s & a on a society day at the end of march. wow what a fantastic course, you can smell the class. the fairways were firm the greens showed no pitch marks from a cracking pitch from the heavens. wow. all the staff were human.....no airs or graces from the starter to the girls in the clubhouse wow. worth every penny. wow
Great course and very challenging. The first hole is a par three right in front of the clubhouse and is very intimidating. This is a James Braid design and is one of his finest, combining links and heathland. Lovely clubhouse and the members will make you feel very welcome. If you love the history of the game you must visit the Ryder Cup room in the clubhouse with its original photos and memorabilia of the two Ryder Cups it hosted.
Played the week of the 1998 Open. Excellent course with a great mix of different holes. I would not hesitate to return and play the course again!
