We played our first match of the season at Stockport golf club. On arriving at the club we were made to feel very welcome, by both the steward and the golf pro. We found the course to be in excellent condition throughout every hole. After the game we headed to the club house for our Good Friday dinner (fish) can I add here this was by far the nicest fish and chips I have ever had. And the size of the fish left us all speechless. If you ever get chance to play there please don't take my word just do it. You WON'T be disappointed Robert
Stockport Golf Club is one of the gems of the north west of England. Each hole holds your interest and from recent visits I expect the course to be in fine condition in 2012. This Open Championship qualifying course hosts the 2012 Cheshire Stroke Play Championship from 12-14 July, and the greens staff will be looking to present the course at its finest this summer. The clubhouse and excellent catering is a great balance to this excellent venue. I would recommend it to anyone thinking of playing.
We played this course during the bank holiday weekend and have to say even with the £50 green fee was just superb. You get what you pay for. The course is an excellent challenge of golf my favourite hole was the 17th where you only have a small fairway to aim your shot at and theres about seven or eight bunkers protecting the green and to the right of the fairway making your approach shot tricky. The condition of tees and greens were first class and the course offers a good variety of holes with dog legs and tricky greens. Overall we had a superb challenging days golf and I would play again no problem, a superb knock.
I played this course in August 2006 and found the course an absoloute delight to play.I play off a handicap of 6 and found this course extremely interesting and know two holes were alike. The course was also flawless, the best tees i have ever played off and the greens were imacculate and fast, the fairways also superb. Everyone at the club was very friendly and we didnt get held up at all the whole way round. Easilly one of the best courses in cheshire and if you are in the area it is well worth the money and i can assure you, you wont be disappointed.
Apologies, mt previous email referred to Mr Riley, should have been Mr Green.
I too find it difficult to countenance Mr Green's comments. The Course at Stockport presented itself in excellent condition last week, despite the dreadfully damp underfoot conditions. The greens were quick and true, and remarkable for a course in February. The few members we encountered were courteous and hospitable. The Food and welcome in the clubhouse could not have been better. One can only assume that the previous correspondent's awful round has coloured his judgement of an fine course, in great condition for the time of year, and has also distracted him into making his simple spelling mistakes.
Played there on the 17th feb 2004 with The Swing Positive Golf Society and we all find it difficult to understand previous comments. We paid £30 per head for bacon butties golf and a splendid Rack of Lamb with all the trimmings this is excellent value and would urge anyone to play and experience this excellent course we all enjoyed the course from 5 handicapper to 28(sorry Steve H0),and only saw 3 other golfers and some sheep(no lambs)no Mobile phones or dog walkers in site.
