Stonelees is a great facility. Think their clubhouse extension is nearly finished which I believe they are going to have an american golf store in. The full length heights course is a great tester for the avid golfer and the newly refurbished range is the best in the area where you can get a cheap bucket of balls. Would recommend to anyone, they are really moving things on there, going to be one of the best golf centres in kent.
As a relatively regular visitor to Stonelees (once a month maybe) I must say this golf centre is an ever improving one. Its easy to see a positive vision is being implemented on an "access to all" basis. Friendly, no strings attached golf, and its being designed for all abilities, so its ideal for my friends to play too. This is the type of initiative critics of "snobby" Golf are demanding. Good Pay and Play Golf. The "Heights" course is now a true golf challenge. Given some previous comments perhaps its too difficult for the higher handicapper, but it is a challenge, and thats Golf, isnt it?!. The alternative 9 hole courses test your ability from beginner to improver. Locally, I hear positive feedback about the Senior Professional there, David Bonthron, who has a great proven teaching ability. Overall its a great golfing place to improve your game - whatever your ability.
What a golf centre! Definately set to be the best in Kent as soon as the new Heights course is completed. Outstanding facilities. very friendly staff and amazing practice facilities with a well built and maintained driving range. Well worth the visit!
I found that all the members of staff where extremly helpful and friendly, making you feel very welcome. I have played the executive course which i found to be a very challanging course, with many water hazards. I also played the resently extended Heights course which I found, also to be very challanging with the 2 par 5's, 4 par 4's and 3 par 3's, making you use every club in your bag. An extremly enjoyable day out, and also relativly cheap.
I think Stone Lees is a useful place to start golf, with a driving range and a couple of small courses, but it's not really a "proper" golf course. The par 3 is little more than a field with no proper tees. It is what is known as "crash helmet golf". I played the so-called "executive" course too before some of the recent improvements. At the time it was very short (opening hole is about 80 yds and only 1 par 4) but very tight. Still it's cheap, welcoming and you can turn up in jeans and trainers and have some fun. I just found it too busy and too dangerous. There is also a nasty smell from a local sewer that is quite off-putting if the wind is in the wrong direction
Both the Par 3 and the Executive courses are always a pleasure to play. The Executive, with its many water features, is particulaly challenging. The new Stonelees Heights course looks like it will be a very interesting addition to the existing facilities. I understand a putting course will also be open later this year which should be good fun as well as a good practise facility. Well done Stonelees keep up the good work!
I think stonelees is a very playable golf course for all ages and it never becomes boring to tee off there.
